How To Make an Online
Petition Effective?
With the power of the internet, everything seems very easy. Now, you can talk to anyone around the world in real time. This used to be just a part of human’s imagination but now, it’s our reality. How blessed we are for enjoying the technology we have today. Everything used to be more difficult and there are no shortcuts to make things a lot easier. The internet is probably one of the best creations of man. Now, no matter where you are in the world, you can be connected to anyone no matter the distance and time difference.
With petitions, the internet has become very useful. Now, with online petitions, gathering signatures has never been easier. Sure, you can’t ask people to sign the petition through the internet but they could add their names unto the list. This makes the job easier and finding more people to sign the petition is as easy as just sending emails. Also, with the word of mouth or shall we say, forwarding of emails, the number of people who would visit the URL of the online petition would continue to grow. This means you may eventually get consumed with the number of visitors to your online petition link.
The internet solves the problem in terms of exposure. You can quickly reach a large number of people through the use of the internet. The effectiveness of your online petition depends on different factors and you must think of a way to combat each of these factors.
First, the visitors can make fun of your petition. This is one downfall of the internet. You can’t easily control who visits your site so you got to make sure you could handle this situation. There would be spammers who have nothing better to do in their life and would spam a very good and well intended petition.
Second, your visitors may just read your petition and choose not to sign. Make sure you make your petition very clear so that visitors would know exactly what your intention is and show them clearly how they can sign the petition.
Third, when you get to gather enough signatures already make sure to check each signature and delete the invalid ones. You can’t be certain that each signatory have good intentions. Make sure you create a way for you to delete signatures or comments that would just ruin the petition but you also have to act without violating any laws. Do so under discretion and the decision for this must be firm and safe.
Lastly, a petition needs to reach the authorities. If it won’t reach its destination then what’s the use of making a petition? There are those petitions created online that are intended just for a tally of people’s opinions but they do not reach the proper authorities who are in charge. You have to make sure that a formal petition must not meet its end with just the signatures. It must be sent to the right persons so it could serve its purpose.
