Two types of petitions

If you are new to writing petitions, you better do your research first so you’ll know exactly what you will be facing. You have two options; either you’ll do it the hard way or the easy way. What is meant by the hard way and the easy way? The hard way is the traditional type of petition where you walk around or you exclaim to the masses just so you could gather these people’s signatures. We’ve seen these all before, on the streets and in schools. In school, there are different types of petitions produced. Petitions that are against a certain school personnel or officer, or a petition asking for people’s support for a certain action. Now, what about the easy way of making a petition? This is the more hi-tech in the sense that you no longer need to do all those things anymore. Why torture your throat and sweat like a faucet when you can do it all at the comfort of your own home? You can now start a petition online. An online petition is easy to do and they can be ready for signatures right away. Online petitions are just as powerful as the traditional petition and all the other pointers in making a petition still stand.

If you plan on making a petition, either in protest or for support, you must know your subject very well and you must write your petition clearly and direct to the point. It has to be straightforward. If you plan on doing the traditional petition, then you have to be prepared to answer all sorts of questions. Some questions may be to challenge you while some questions are targeted as to why it’s important to start a petition in the first place. You must be prepared in order to convince as much people as possible. With online petitions though this is not the case. Normally, people will just read the content of your petition and would then decide whether or not they’ll sign the petition. There are no more questions being asked as there is no direct interaction between the petition’s creator and the signatories. This makes online petitions a lot easier but it has to be complete and well-detailed.

With traditional petitions, you have to personally gather these people’s signatures. With online petitions on the other hand, you just send the link to your online petition via email or by other online means. With just one send, you can already reach as many people as you want.

The validity of the petition whether it’s the traditional or the online petition does not really vary. Whether it’s a traditional or an online petition, they are still considered legitimate as long as the petitions follow the guidelines set by the local government or legislatures.

With all these points tackled to compare the traditional and non-traditional form of petition, what do you think would be best for you? Will you choose the hard way or choose the easy way? It’s really up to you. Just make sure your petition reaches the right address once all signatures have been gathered.
