Fans Using Petitions to Make Their Voices Heard

Online petitions have been increasing in popularity over the last few years. There are many success stories concerning online petitions. Many people have seen how efficient and helpful online petitions can be. They are easier to work with and to sign than regular petitions.

You may be surprised on the number of online petitions that are being created everyday. Online petitions range from civil rights issues to entertainment and media. Entertainment petitions have become extremely popular as fans of films and television shows fight in order to get their voices heard. One particular petition site, Petition Spot, has literally thousands of petitions in their Entertainment and Media category. Many of those entertainment petitions has tens of thousands of signatures! You will be amazed at the types of petitions people are starting and signing.

One of the most popular online fan-based petitions is currently about the upcoming Harry Potter 6 film, Half Blood Prince. Many fans are upset over the rescheduling of the release date. Originally, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince was scheduled to be released on November 21, but it has recently been pushed back eight more months! Now it's not scheduled to be released until next summer; July 17, 2009. Obviously, many Harry Potter fans are upset by this, including myself. The Harry Potter 6 petition has been launched by the "Howler Campaign". The petition is being hosted on Petition Spot.

The film has already been completed, so why is it being pushed back for eight months? Many Harry Potter and Twilight fans feel that it's being rescheduled so it won't conflict with the upcoming Twilight film which is set to be released in December. Twilight also has a very large fan base, which may even rival that of the Harry Potter fans.

If Harry Potter 6 really isn't released until July of next year, that will make it exactly two years in between two Harry Potter films. And, considering there are plans to make the last book, Deathly Hallows, into two separate films, the actors are going to be in their twenties by the time the series is completed! There are a lot of very surprising twists in the Half Blood Prince, and many fans are looking forward to seeing things unfold on the big screen. There's no reason whatsoever to make Harry Potter fans (including me) wait two years in between installments!

Another popular entertainment petition is to help save Arrested Development. The undersigned wish for FOX to allow Arrested Development to remain on prime time for the remainder of its third season, and to continue on for the fourth season. There are around fifty thousand signatures thus far, signed by Arrested Development fans who hope to save it from getting the axe.

Stargate Atlantis is a very popular television show with a sort of "cult following". Unfortunately, MGM has recently announced the end of the show, angering many fans. Many people feel that SGA is the one show that keeps the Sci-Fi channel going. Allegedly, a spinoff series called Stargate Universe has been given the green light to begin next year. Is it necessary to cancel SGA in order to make way for Stargate Universe? People fall in love with a series for a reason; the storyline and characters are interesting. Why change everything? That's the question that thousands of fans are asking. Are MGM and the Sci-Fi channel aware of the money they may lose by not continuing SGA and releasing it on DVD?

Stargate Atlantis fans have been looking forward to watching the show every Friday night. Are MGM and the Sci-Fi channel going to take that away from them? Will they reconsider once they see the Save Stargate Atlantis petition online with over fifty thousand signatures? Online petitions have helped saved other shows in the past, we can only wait and see if SGA find success now.

The Gilmore Girls has been an extremely popular series from the last few years. And while the series did end after seven season, many fans are unhappy with the series finale. Fans of Gilmore Girls don't feel that the very last episode was a sufficient enough ending, and have started an online petition with hopes of bringing it back for season eight. The ending of the series came abruptly and unexpectedly. Fans don't feel satisfied at all, and hope for at least one more season to help them feel more closure.

The Gilmore Girls Season 8 petition already contains 15,000 signatures, and that number is growing daily. Fans are hoping to convince actresses Alexis Bledel and Lauran Graham to come back for one more season if the CW network allows for it. Fans are trying to get the CN network to acknowledge all of the money they'll be missing out on by not allowing the show to return for another season. Another season of DVD's being released will bring them in a lot of money as well. All the fans ask for is either 13 episodes in the spring, or a full season of 22 episodes in the fall. Many Gilmore Girls fans feel both confident and hopeful that the petition, which can be found on Petition Spot, will help bring the show back one last time.

There are fans of many other television shows starting online petitions as well. There is currently an online petition to save Marissa Cooper, a character on the show O.C., from dying. Fans of the series The Black Donnellys are hoping to save it from getting the axe. Soap opera fans are trying to save the popular soap, Days of Our Lives, from getting taken off the air. Days of Our Lives has been a hit soap opera since 1965.

No matter what films, book series, celebrities, or television shows you're a fan of, you can be sure that there's an online petition out there somewhere to help save it. Petition Spot is the number one source of entertainment and media petitions.
