Over the years awareness about the surroundings has grown tremendously. People are not only well aware of what is happening in their neighborhood but also have a clear understanding of global happenings. Each individual in this world is different and for every event that happens, there are people who appreciate the event and there are people who condemn the event. Each individual has a different thought process and they want a group of people to agree to their thought process. This gives the person a feeling of being right and also affirm that their decision is going to go a long way in improving the lifestyle of mankind. These people resort to writing petitions to get their point across to very many people around the world.

The first and foremost thing a person who wants to write a petition must do is to get legal clearance from the local governing authority of the place in which he resides. Depending on the area in which he resides, the petitioner will require a minimum number of people to be signatories to the petition to get this legal clearance. This is the first stage in any petition process and only if this process is complete the person can go ahead with the petition.

Any petition should be as brief and crisp as possible. If the petition is long and does not directly address the issue, chances are, the petition will never be read. In today’s world no one has time to read long petitions. Only if the petition is brief and addresses the matter in hand directly will people read and render support to the petition. Since petitions are usually raised to gather people for a certain cause, it is in the best interest of the petitioner that petition reaches as many people as possible. People can render support to a petition only if they are aware of that petition.

Grammatical and/or Typographical error is a strict no-no when you are writing a petition. If errors are present in the petition that we write people feel that we are not serious about the issue in hand. If people are put off by these errors they may not even be interested in reading the petition. A petition not read is similar to junk mail in our mail box.

Polite online petition have good impact on the readers. On reading the petition if they feel one with the issue they will definitely respond positively to the petition. Online petition have a far greater reach and effect on people when compared to petition sent by mail. Online petition can reach millions of people almost instantaneously and is particularly useful if the time in hand is short.
Another important manner in which the petition can be raised is by advertisement in radio, television or newspaper. These advertisements could be in form of a summary of what the petitioner actually wants to convey. Though advertising is a strong medium of putting your message across it may prove to be a costly option. The reach and impact of advertising is highest among the methods available to publicize your petition.
Whatever issue you may raise in a petition, the voice of the petitioner will only be heard if it has a support of large number of people. So it is important that your petition is publicized well.
