Online petition is a petition which is filed on a website detailing the problem. Here you should clearly mention the issue for which you want to raise the petition. Since there is no personal contact in this form of petition your petition should not leave any questions in the mind of the reader(s). Only if he/she sympathies with your problem will he be ready sign to your petition. Online petition are clearly preferred over traditional petition because it can reach millions of people in just a few seconds. The appeal and the effect of the petition is very large which is the main purpose of filing any petition. It is cost effective and it can create awareness of the problem in every nook and corner of the globe. Another from of online petition is an e-mail petition. An e-mail petition is sent to a person in form of an email specifying the problem issue in hand. The person receiving the e-mail is asked to forward it to the people known to him, who will sympathize with him on the issue. This will create mass awareness about the issue in hand.

One similarity in both petitions is that it is important to get a sanction form the local authority to start a petition. Clearly in today online petition is preferred to a traditional petition, unless the issue dealt is local in character.
