I searched this entire site for any mention of this case and came up empty handed. If you think Ms. Lukas is a tyrant, just check out the case of 13 year-old honor student/ JUNIOR HIGH GIRL Savana Redding being STRIP SEARCHED BY HER SCHOOL then sat in the principles office for two hours after being humiliated for nothing, before anyone thought to contact her parents. BASIC FACTS in the case: 1) School officials caught one of Savana's "friends" with ibuprofen pills (this other girl was a known trouble maker) and she said Savana (the honor student with no disciplinary record) gave them to her. School officials did not ask when or where or any further questions to verify this statement. 2) They decided to find Savana, put her in a room with two female officials (as if this makes it ok) and tell her to remove her clothes until she was in her bra and panties...THEN they asked her to shake out her undergarments in front of them so that they could SEE INSIDE to make sure she was not hiding any pills there!!! 3) They did not check her bag or locker, they just took her clothes off and when they found nothing, they made her sit in the principle's office for two hours after being humiliated while they decided what to do in their "ongoing investigation" of NOTHING! 4) Her family sued the school for damages and won, the school appealed the Ninth Circuit's ruling and they took it to the Supreme Court, who agreed to hear the case. Arguments have been made and now the Supreme Court Justices are deciding whether or not this search was constitutional to determine if the School should pay damages. If you would like to know more, it is all over the internet, just search redding v safford or something like "student strip searched, supreme court" .... if you are realllly curious: you might also want to read a little on the Supreme Court case entitled New Jersey V. TLO because a large chunk of the argument in the transcript from the Supreme Court hearing (they still are deliberating but it has been heard) is based in the TLO case. This ruling will be HUGE! WHY DO I MENTION ALL OF THIS?: While I agree with the Lukas petition, I saw so many frivolous petitions on this site yet nothing on this monumental case. As I am sure most of you who may read this are either involved parents or concerned with School Systems having too much power, I wanted to share it with you because I feel very passionately about word getting out about the Redding case and people understanding just how far the schools have gone lately. They should be reigned in on their arbitrary tyrannical pseudo-justice. They are supposed to protect and help students - not abuse innocent, blind obedience or traumatize well-behaved children, or any children for that matter!!!!

In addition to the strip search post, there was a very upsetting incident that happened (perhaps) 5 years ago. It involved 4 young girls who were not in traditional classes but part of an alternative education program conducted by MSAD 6. They were \\\'technically\\\' seventh graders, but also took classes with eighth graders. There was going to be a dance for the eighth graders, but since the girls were taking classes with the eighth graders, they asked if they could attend the dance. They were granted permission to attend by their teacher. They were all very excited as young girls would be and did all those fun things; like shopping for pretty dresses. They went to the dance and I believe were let in, when they were asked to leave because this was a dance only for eighth graders. ohmy.gif To add insult to injury, they were forced to sit in the hall in full view of all the other students until their parents were able to pick them up. It\\\'s another example of school authorities doing irrepairable harm to sensitive, innocent, impressionable, young people in order to enforce a stupid and meaningless rule. Really? What harm would have been done if the girls were allowed to attend and enjoy the dance. There was talk of a lawsuit being filed, but the public outrage generated by the incident seemed to get swept under the carpet; just like the current administration is trying to do with the 2009 graduation incident. I don\\\'t know what happened after that. I do hope that apologies were offered to the girls and the administration held accountable.
