I have been listening to many talk shows about this tax, and what many people don't seem to realize that this is really not one tax but a combination of GST and PST. Many services and items we pay only GST on but with this HST we will be paying actually be paying the GST as well as the PST. Those on fixed incomes will be hurt. One example would be gyms, now in a province that wants people to be healthy and proactive in their care, there will be the additional PST on memberships, many will have to give this up, the result, you guessed it, people not being healthy and therefore using hospital more ths putting more of a burden on the health care system.
