Goal Progress:
Due to the recent voting mix-up that invalidated the votes cast on Tuesday March 22, 2005, we urge that the upcoming American Idol tour include, at least the top 11 contestants, and preferably, the top 12 contestants.
We realize that some contestants received an unfair advantage in the graphics snafu that occurred on Tuesday night; therefore, it was correct to order a re-vote on Wednesday March 23, 2005. However, the contestant with the lowest number of votes on Wednesday might have been different than the contestant who would have had the lowest number of votes on Tuesday. Situations change from Tuesday to Wednesday. Some people who voted continuously for two hours on Tuesday might be unavailable to vote even for five minutes on Wednesday. And some people who voted Tuesday might have been disgusted that they voted in vain that night and fail to vote on Wednesday.
There is a tremendous disadvantage in finishing 11th in American Idol voting. In recent years, only ten contestants perform on the American Idol tour. Those ten receive much needed exposure to the public and to recording executives. In the recent American Idol tour, the top ten toured. No less than five finalists received recording contracts after the tour, and that does not include Fantasia or Diana, the top two. The 11th and 12th place contestants, Matt and Leah, did not get to go on the tour. So far, neither has received recording contracts.
As mentioned about, a re-vote is necessary to preserve the integrity of American Idol voting. However, with the uncertainty about the 11th place finisher, and whether he or she would have finished in the top 10 under normal circumstances, the 11th place finisher should also be allowed to perform on the tour.
Disclaimer....The originator of the petition runs a fan site dedicated to one of the top 11 contestants. However, this petition was established very early on Thursday March 24th 2005, before the votes were tallied. This is not an attempt to get her favorite Idol on the tour; this is an attempt to correct a probable injustice.
