The 2D Castlevanias were awesome. My only complaint is a lack of Alucard as a major character. Arikado didn't make enough appearances, and he's not showing up in Curse of Darkness. The fans love him, why not bring him back as a major, if not playable, character?
Also, bring Sonia Belmont back. Create some kind of storyline to where she may have fought Dracula but didn't actually kill him or something, but please, bring her back.
One suggestion could be a game revolving around Julius Belmont's quest. Honestly, my friends and I were heavily anticipating the next 2D Castlevania or even a 3d Castlevania to revolve around Julius and his quest. Aria of Sorrow clearly left it open, but instead, we got a Sequel to Aria of Sorrow, and a sequel to Dracula's Curse.
So my suggestion for your next Castlevania should be a Julius Belmont game.
Also, when creating secondary characters to play in the game after players have first beaten the game... please give them in-game storylines. It's very boring to have to play through the exact same game, the exact same levels, and the exact same enemies just as a different character who a) Can't level up. b) Only comes with a default amount of weapons, and can only collect hearts, health, heart, and magic enhancements, and c) These characters have shown in the original game to have actual storylines, so why not implement some of it into the actual game, and not at the very beginning or the very end? Secondary character cutscenes would be nice. Anything to show a plotline. This would greatly enhance the replay value of the games.
Other than that, I miss console 2D Castlevanias. I look forward to them returning in the future.
Ive played the Nes,Snes,GBA versions and Also the N64 versions. However i noticed i liked the 2-D versions more.I thought this is how Castlevania should be.
2D Castlevania were the ****. I enjoyed them all, along with the Metroids. Metroid Prime for gamecube did an extraordinary conversion to the FPS genre, perhaps Castlevania could do something similar. I know I'd definitely play it. If not a reincarnation of this ambitious nature, a new 2D Castlevania reminicent of SOTN would assuredly be widely accepted throughout the gaming community. Here's to the future.
Look at how well received the GBA castlevanias were, there is no reason why they cant be as successful on a home console in 2D
Give us a collection, give us a new game, heck give us Rondo even, but IGA, just please give us another georgeous 2D castlevania. Castlevania excels in 2D, the 3D ones will never be as good
IGA, and the numerous Konami staff members, I would like to start by thanking you all for helping keep not just the franchise, but also 2D gaming, alive on the handhelds.
A part of me still continues to die whenever I think how as the years went by, publishers increasingly continue to ignore the desires of the developers who put their name on the map. However, business is business and I believe that we the fans can also help convince the superiors at Konami that there is a marketable business in developing 2D games on home consoles in this day and age, as there always has been. If not the voices of the fans are convincing enough, then I suppose the unfortunate criticism of the 3D Castlevanias and the lacking sales should be enough.
Not that the 3D Castlevania titles were of a poor effort, but I for one do appreciate the diligent staff for pouring their blood and sweat into those projects and at least giving the 3D concept a try to begin with. But (this leads me to my final point) as we all know, it's just that the general game design of some our beloved classic 2D games simply cannot translate into 3D as others (such as Mario Bros. -> Mario 64 and Metal Gear -> Metal Gear Solid) can. I may not be a developer, but I understand that such a drastic change of interactive environment settings can be a designing and programming nightmare.
I wish good luck to everyone who wants to see a console 2D Castlevania again, as well as good luck to IGA and the rest of the team.
2D is what makes Castlevania, well, CASTLEVANIA! It just doesn't feel tje sa,e when I play one of the 3D types. I believe Castlevania is meant to be 2D, and the leap in 3D on consoles should not stop us from experiencing Castlevania the way it is meant to be played!
I've been a fan of gaming since I was 5, I've loved side scrollers, 2D games, they're always a blast and fun for me, if 2D returnedot home consoles, I'd be one hell of a happy gamer.
I would love another game very similar to Symphony of the Night but on a Home Console (Like GCN or PS2) To this day, I still play SotN, as it is one of my favorite games. I would pay good money for a TRUE sequel to come out for a system I can play hours upon hours AT HOME. Thank you for doing this petetion, hopefully it is heard from Igarashi. I am looking foward to seeing another 2-D Castlevania in the similar fashion as SotN (and if you need more proof for cashflow, look how well that sold)
3D was never really anything that made Castlevania any better. Sure, some of it weren't bad - but it was never great either. SOTN for PS1 and recently AOS for GBA is what Castlevania should be all about. One love.
Castlevania should be brought back to 2d on the consoles with a sequel to SOTN that has something to do with Maria going after Alucard at the end of the game. I think it would rock. Please make this game!
Mr. IGA, I just want to say that I find your works to be of extraidonary talent.
All your Castlevania games are wonderful works of art. I love 2D gaming because its about game play and fun. Of course I love 3D games too but I feel Castlevania is just best in 2D.
Still I support 3D titles like Lament of Innoncence and your upcoming Curse of Darkness.
Though I am just one voice, I am certain I speak for millions of fans.
I appreciate that the urge to go along with everyone else in the gaming industry and make Castlevania 3D may be overwhelming, but the Castlevania series was never really about flashy three-dimensional graphics and getting to turn left and right while fighting the bad guys fore and aft. 2D may be considered a relic, but Castlevania is far from that status, and still lives strong in the latest Castlevania game. Don't change the format just because everyone else is doing it. Don't make us name classic 2D games that had their start in the 1980's that had fallen to oblivion when they made the transition to 3D.
Awsome game, i never played the newest 3D one becuz I herd it was lame, I played the N64 version and it was.. errm.. O..K.. but i have played almost all the 2D versions and they are all wonderful
this is one of most fantastic series ever created. it needs to go back to its roots. Where it all began. Thats what got mytself and many others interested in our gaming lifestyle! thanks for you time
A new 2D Castlevania console game would make my life... MY LIFE. Symphony of the Night is one of my favorite games of all time. Lament of Innocence just wasn't the same. Bring 2D Back to the Home Console
I would kill to see another 2d castelvania. Literally. I would KILL ALL. Castlevania has been a part of my life since the very first one introduced on the NES. Putting this game in 3d just kills the whole feel of it. This game is meant for 2d and should stay that way. Why not try something simliar to what Contra did with the mixture of 2d and 3d, but more of on the 2d side. U guys rock so much. and I will make sure this petition gets soo large you guys will have no choice but to make another 2d castelvania THE PEOPLE COMMAND YOU TOO!!!
In my opinion, some game series were not meant for 3d. Games like Kirby have stuck to this idea. With all games becoming 3d and drifting away from 2d, gaming can take a serious turn for the worse.
Hear us. The handheld versions are great, but none of them have yet held a candle to Symphony of the Night. I can't imagine a 2D Castlevania on a next-gen system.
