I love seeing new Castlevania games in 3D, but it would be awesome to have a new 2D Castlevania that doesn't feel like a second hand kiddy game for handhelds.
Castlevania, what a game, what a series. It is, without a doubt, one of my favourite games. Now Mr. Igarashi, you need to take us, the fans, back to the roots of Castlevania once again. To a place called 2D. It works better, feels better, and is more fun than 3D.
I am fine with either 2-D or 3-D Castlevania as well as ANY art style (as long as it looks good and not some ugly crap that you can't make out).
But I think making copies of Symphony of the Night is getting stale. Back in the Nintendo days Castlevania was VARIED and I believe the series should return to trying variety rather than continually copying the same game over and over again. The series was very successful back then and a new 2-D game that DEPARTS from the Symphony of the Night style will probably be a bigger success than another SOTN clone.
Also, in a system like PlayStation 3, a 2-D game can be MASSIVE.
It would TRULY be glorious if you added games like Dracula's Curse, and far more importantly, CHI NO RONDO to them as bonuses or make one HUGE compilation.
One other thing, Symphony fans would appreciate a re-release of Nocturne in the Moonlight as many of us (like myself) didn't get to play it and as such didn't get to play as adult Maria or Richter as Kojima-san drew him.
And two last things:
Either 2-D or 3-D (though I prefer the latter, so sue me), I and many others would love to see a game about Julius' battle with Dracula in 1999. I would hate to see it as another SOTN clone, though.
And lastly, a Castlevania game starring a woman would be great, and PLEASE, no under-dressed lady either (CV: Legends sucked and I am glad it was removed from the timeline.)!
And lastly, a Castlevania game starring a woman would be great, and PLEASE, no under-dressed lady either (CV: Legends sucked and I am glad it was removed from the timeline.)!
I know i would buy each and every one that would be released. Please do an american release of Rondo of Blood. Castlevania is the best thing to happen to video games.
Symphony of the Night rocks. please make another Castlevania in 2d BUT FOR CONSOLES. if you dont want to make a new game, at least a possibility would be a remake for Rondo of Blood (remember the Castlevania Chronicles? wasnt that supposed to be a series of remakes?) speaking of remakes, what about Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse? that would make a hell of a remake too!!
Castlevania Rocks and it will always be that way
Castlevania Symphony of the Night was the first of the many castlevania games I had played. Even though it was 2D, it had great graphics and the music was just beautiful. The gameplay in it was excellent as well. It would be great to see another 2D castlevania game that's just as great as Symphony of the Night.
I don't have much to say besides Symphony of the Night is one of my favorite games and Castlevania, one of my favorite series. I would love to see the series stay true to it's roots because that's what made the games great.
I have dreamed of a 2D CastleVania game for the home consoles. It must be done! Who cares if Europe doesn't like 2D gaming? It's their frickin' problem, not the CV fans' problem. How about a 2D sequel to CastleVania III (My favorite game ever)?
Aye, this is Rob, and this is what I have to say: 2D Castlevania has a solid fanbase. This is where most of the fans are. This is where most of the fans will stay. 3D Castlevania is here, and it is good, but it doesn't have the same feel as 2D. If more 3D Castlevania's are made, the original fanbase will shrink. I would like to see more 2D CV's made, as do others. Please, Mr. Igarashi, do the fans a big favour.
As fans of the series since the beginning, my brother and I have loved the 2D games. The 3D adventures, however, have seemed more "Castlevania-them ed" than actual sequels. A bit like the CVs on Gameboy. As long as hand-held systems exist, so does the 2D market.
Over the past twenty years, Castlevania games have taken almost every shape and size, used every gimmicj under the sun, but still came out with even more ploys somehow. However, the 3D adventures have been almost universally hated. With the removal of 2D goes an enormous chunk of fanbase that won't settle for mediocre 3D outings.
Don't get me wrong, I don't believe that most 2D games are profitable. In most cases, the maximum utilization of technology is the key ingredient to a successful action game, that that would tear out the heart and soul of this series! 2D is the series shtick, it just seems to work!
Fans of the series will buy just about any 2D adventure, but a 3D game would have to fight for every inch because it would be like its own game! It seems less than profitable to attempt a series launch with every individual title released. It's simply a wildly unnecassary risk!
2D beauty! Castlevania SotN was a 2D game on a platform largely for 3D games, yet it is excellent; indeed it set a milestone for all the future Castlevanias to follow, while maintaining the atmosphere of the older games! Time for history to repeat itself! 2D is not dead!
What's wrong with the artwork? To me, it seems to fit well in the Castlevania series, it gives that dark and gothic atmospheric look and feel to the game. I mean, take a look at the Final Fantasy series and a few others. They have a few male characters that look girlish, anyway. Considering that the series' artwork is by one of the most talented artists in Japan especially, Ayame Kojima ^.^!
Plus, it seemed to have been drawing so much attention to the fangirls other than only to the fanboys. This is just an opinion, that's all. I'm not saying that everyone shouldn't have anything against it.
But besides the artwork, what's really important to add, is how the franchise progressing so far.
Although, it's quite interesting to see Castlevania moving up to another level such as the 3D development and technology in recent games from N64 to PS2, as well as the newest PS2 title coming out with DS'; I still think that it totally kicks butt in 2D form.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is one of the BEST action/adventure title ever on the Playstation and it still is to this day! And let's not forget about the three GBA games! ^__^
I am really anticipating for the newest Castlevania DS title to arrive in North America as well as other future 2D games from the series.
I like you to know, Mr. Igarashi, that you and the Castlevania series will always have a place in my heart as well as in every other fans'.^ ^
STOP! Now that I have your attention, please stop making the characters in Castlevania look like supermodels and/or Asian. This is Romania. They should have a rugged European look to them! My other point is please make a 2D Castlevania. It's high time for something similar to SOTN, but not a copy.
A new 2D Castlevania is what I need. It is what the fan populous needs. I would love to see a 2D Castlevania come alive for the Playstation 2 or 3. The graphics have been superb for the series and the music is even better. Please make a 2D Castlevania, playable as a Belmont.
Castlevania is awsome, not matter if it's 2D or 3D. I'd like it if another game were to come out. In all honesty, since I'm still rather new to all of these games, I kinda wish Alucard comes up in a later game, he sounds like an interesting character. But yes, please come out with a new 2D Castlevania game, their awsome (And I have yet to actually play Symphony of the Night so I have no idea why it's so good at the moment).
As a semi-pro oldgamer (www.oldgames.ru), I just have to say that racing for superiority in the 3d department never helped the gameplay.
Therefore, making a 2d game, while a tad more taxing on the skills of animators (unlike 3d graphics), can not only quench the thirst for an old-school (in the best possible meaning) game, but also allow the extra money (that would've otherwise went into the engine development) be spent on a good storyline and music, and sound, and maybe even voice acting.
Besides, nowadays, anyone can do a jaw-dropper in 3d. But a jaw-dropper in 2d, without using prerendered-3d too much... Now THAT is a true test of skill, display of power - you name it.
Besides, the Castlevania games always seemed to have fared far better in 2d - the original NES CVs, Dracula X, Symphony of the Night, Aria of Sorrow -- and now Dawn of Sorrow as well -- have all been partly successful because of just that - pushing the 2d limit just a little farther, making the gameplay just a little better.
If done on modern consoles, the 2d approach, aside from quite detailed characters and backgrounds, can allow for heavier use of the console's graphical powers to render the various special FX, such as spells, summons and whatnot - if such graphics will be mated with a gameplay to rival that of the classic games we all know and love, then the fans will be pleased, new people just might get interested...
And, of course, profits will be made. In the end, a proper approach to this will be beneficial to everyone.
(Please?)
To Mr.Koji Igarashi
The Castlevania series have always claimed a special place in my heart. It is with great sadness that I witness your hesitation to bring back the concept to its roots. It is understandable that the gaming industry’s overwhelming focus on 3D graphics makes you doubt whether classic 2D is a thing of the past, or if it could make a comeback to the home consoles. But lets be logical, gaming, for most, of us is about the feeling, and I believe that 2D graphics is the natural choice for you to accomplish the best Castlevania experience possible. I know that I’m not alone, so please consider what I and thousands of fans are calling out for!
You must realize that making a Symphony of the Night-clone will not be a success, but making a new 2D-Castlevania will make big success, you know it!!!
And people, please show Castlevania some respect and write the whole name when mentioning Symphony of the Night, it's not hard you know!!!
If you people love the game so much, at least give it the dignity to be spelled as a whole, NOT as SOTN all the time...
Castlevania forever, Koji Igarashi Forever.
Castlevania in my heart, we will never drift apart...
P.S. Sorry for the misspelling D.S.
If you do make Castlevanias fro other consoles, keep in mind that the PlayStation will always carry a special place for Castlevania, as will Nintendo, but not XBox however, leave the XBox alone and create a new Castlevania for the PS 2, PS 3, Nintendo GameCube or Nintendo Revolution, please.
Microsoft will ruin video games, but the old school game makers like Sony and Nintendo will not
You must realize that maing a Symphony of the Night-clone will not be a success, but maing a new 2D-Castlevania will make big success, you know it!!!

With the success of SotN, we cannot discount 2D as dead. A revival of the 2D Castlevania, Im sure that the fans could be brought back in, especially with the lukewarm success of the 3D Castlevania's, it's time to return to the true Castlevania. We all know that is 2D. So let's see it, please! we need 2D on the consoles.
Castlevania: SOTN has beautiful 2D sprites. And as its predecessor, Castlevania DS has blown 2D to an all new level. I will support this because I hope someday, Igarashi will create a great Castlevania 2D game on the PS2. That will bring 2D to its fullest extent.
I would love to see a new 2D Castlevania on home consoles (high resolution sprite based graphics, not polygonal graphics). Preferably on the Gamecube or Revolution. But ps2 or ps3 is fine if it's a must.
please bring back 2d castlevania on home consoles...but please dont keep on making "metroid clones" . take it back to the old school days of castlevania 4 and rondo of blood
Let's see another 2D Castlevania on the consoles! And not just on PS2, please, there ARE other systems. Oh, and it would be nice if the Belmonts stopped looking like bishounen freaks too, but I won't push my luck ;)
I WANT SING ARIAS OF SORROW IN AN HARMONY OF DISSONANCE INSIDE THE CIRCLE OF THE MOON!!!!!
I WANT MORE 2D CASTLEVANIAS!!!!!!!
STOP THE NEED OF SEARCH CASTLEVANIAS ROMHACKS IN THE WEB!!!!! WE WANT MORE 2D!!!!!
Castlevania has always stood out as one of my favorite game series.I feel that the essence of castlevania lies in the 2D realm.the graphical representation and its atmosphere are amazing, from the art to the soundtrack. To have a 2D castlevania on the home consoles would be an artistic blessing.
Castlevania in 2D is simply the best. I have played the 3D versions and they are just not the same. I would like to see a 2D Castlevania game on the PS2/ XBOX/ GameCube. Long live Simon Belmont!!!
Another Castlebania 2D game has to be made... it can be a remake of some older games, but it can show some new characters and events. I just can't wait for another title of the greatest game sries of all times. And I can't imagine the original 2D Castlevanias to be forever replaced with the 3D ones!!
NO! You are all wrong, how can you live in the past all the time!? Not another Symphony of the Night, but absolutely another 2D-Castlevania.
The series have certainly proven themselves to be much better in 2D than in 3D, but I say, Iga, make a Castlevania that is fresh but at the same time classic, a 2D adventure with the same style as Symphony of the Night, but not "SOTN 2" as many keep asking about.
Make a Castlevania in 2D, make many Castlevanias in 2D, we LOVE them, we need them, but we do not need to see Symphony of the Night repeat itself storywise, we want a new story, a new chapter, but the same old graphics as the good old times, that is my absolute opinion!!!
All hail Castlevania!!!
I love ball aspects of CastleVania. But one thing that makes it a classic series is keeping it's lush 2-D landscapes and animated sprites fresh and etertaining. Please continue that fine tradition for the series that is CastleVania; one of the greatest video games of all time.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the Castlevania series over a number of years. Imagining another side-scroller, considering the vast resources available with today's consoles, causes me to salivate in anticipation.
All the 2d CV games have been better than the 3d ones IMO. Not that I didn't enjoy the 3d ones, but the 2d ones I couldn't put down. I still occasionally pick up SOTN.
Castlevania is at it's best in 2D. The only way to top Symphony of the Night, is to create another 2D game on a console. One day, this new game will come.
