The spirit of castlevania as always been in 2d (and this come from someone that knows 3d animation),mixing the gorgeous detailed graphics (that can have 3d elements added to it...it works well),inovation, numerous quantity's of foe's and items, melodic music and interesting plots and great artwork. That's the winning formula.Whit today's home systems you guys at Konami could make a awesome new volume...redefining 2d games and preventing them from desapearing from the market(which i doubt that they will desapear someday). So Mr.Koji Igarashi i hope that you and Konami will be delivering to us another great castlevania game in a near future,il buy it for sure :).And if you need more people to do the game...damn...il join Konami :D yeah! hahaha!!

Classic Konami games like Castlevania and Contra where originaly designed as 2D games for 2D systems with side-scrolling gameplay and a formula that worked. And by putting games of a long living series (like Castlevania) into 3D is like changing the formula, It usually does not turn out well because it's just not the same. Castlevania started and stayed a 2D, side-scroller on verious home-consoles from 1986 to 1997 and was always successful because of it's perfect gameplay, graphics, sound etc. A series respected and loved by millions of people everywhere, all the while in 2D. Just because today's video game consoles are designed in favor of 128 bit, 3D life-like games; does not mean old school games like Castlevania should be made the same way. And it should be obvious, judging by the poor sales of Castlevania 64 and Lament Of Innocence. So please keep Castlevania like CIII: Dracula's Curse, Super Castlevania 4 and Symphony Of The Night, always. Sincerely, 1 of your FANs.

To Chris Hunter! I think it's not only a disgrace but also a great shame when you state that "he can die" and referring to IGA!! How can you say that!? A game isn't everything in life, just a part of our gamers' lives that we live for, not kill for. You should mind your language, just because Resurrection wasn't released doesn't mean IGA is a bad man. If it weren't for Mr Igarashi we wouldn't even have Castlevania in the first place. Castlevania rules - more Castlevania in 2D and better spelling from some who give their statements in this petition. May the light of Castlevania never die!!!

I've been a big Castlevania fan for many years. I also want to see a 2D console version. Not a 2D polygonal version. Most Castlevania fans don't want any polygons in the Castlevanaia games. Also I think it should play similar to Castlevania 3 for the NES or Dracula X for the PC Engine. I think we should put Alucard in the game & please no more Metroid style of Castlevania. Just give us a pure 2D classic action Castlevania game with no RPG elements on the console.

I have been a fan of the Castlevania series since the first one on the NES, and there literally is NO game I ever look forward to more than the next installment in the franchise. In my opinion, Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night is the absolute zentih of the series in every way possible: gameplay, music, story and GRAPHICS. Many people have forgotten just how beautiful 2D can be, and how much more intimate the process for creating a 2D game is. A new 2D Castlevania for one of the major consoles would be a dream come true, and both IGA and Konami have my full support in this endeavor. I literally have every Castlevania game ever released in the US(I'm even buying the Nintendo DS, which I swore I would not do, EXCLUSIVELY for Castlevania: Dawn Of Sorrow), and a new 2D Castlevania for a console like PS2 or X-Box would be a dream come true.

I enjoyed Lament, that´s for sure; but I simply consider awesome games like Simphony, Aria, and the first NES games of the series. Different persons have been in charge of the Castlevania proyect; but the best games are in 2D. I consider this new PS2 games a good work and Curse happens to be a better result, but what about a good Castlevania Classics remake; kinda like Chronicles, but better. But it doesn't mean to quit the Castlevania 3D games, I want to see Mathias progress into lord of the vampires.

I'm not signing for Iga. Guy's an *******. If it weren't for his ego, we'd have Castlevania Resurrection on the Dreamcast. But, because he couldn't stand the thought of (gasp) US game designers making a GOOD 3D Castlevania, he threatened to quit Konami unless they canned it. Not signing for his sake. He can die. Signing because 2D is good.

I would love to see Castlevania return to a more traditional formula. While I enjoyed Lament, and the demo of Curse that I played at E3...they hardly capture the classic feel I've grown up with. I'd enjoy a remake of the port so many fans never had the opportunity to play, Akumajo Dracula Chi no Rondo. Dracula X was an astounding game that truly marked a change in the series while keeping things in familiar territory. Bring'em back Konami...IGA...we need our Castlevania in 2-dimensions.

Castlevania is a series I am quite fond of. It was one of my earliest memories of gaming as a child, and certainly one of, if not THE reason I continue playing Video Games today. Castlevania has always been about raising the bar. Continuing to deliver a quality game while changing the formula ever so slightly. I have enjoyed the trip from the NES to the Nintendo DS, but I must say...the 2D adventures have really left their mark. That's not to say the 3D iterations were terrible, hardly. It was a bold experiment...but I think the future of the series lies withing the formula that truly made fans of us all. Please...please return Castlevania's console persona back to its roots. Symphony of the Night was fantastic...as are all of the Game Boy Advance iterations. Consider this proposition as a plea from the fans who are do desperate to see a next-gen 2D Castlevania entry. Thank you!

I have been a fan of the series since I played the first Castlevania for the NES as a kid. When the 3D games came for the N64 I thought it would be the end of the series. They where not bad games, they did just not feel Castlevania. Then came Sotn for the Playstation and what a game it was. I was totally blown away! I have since then hoped and prayed for a new 2D home console version. The GBA games are great, but it would be so awesome to sit in my sofa and play a new 2D castlevania game on my tv. Please make our dream come true! Kind Regards from Sweden

Lament of Innocence was nice, and Curse of Darkness looks pretty good too but there is nothing like the old 2D Castlevania games, it isn't only a matter of "realistic graphics", it is also about the gameplay experience, besides 2D scenarios tend to be better than 3D since they are more detailed and "creative", just like Symphony of the Night showed us many years ago.

I have always preferred the 2-D games, and SotN was my favourite game. I don't quite know what it was about it, but I gave up three other games just to get that one. I have always dreamed of a 2-D game on a home consol, but (with the exception of SotN) they have always been 3-D, So I never buy them. I wouldn't buy the next game if it's 3-D, but I WILL buy it if it's like the other 2-D ones.

the 3D version was good but compared to the 2D old games of castlevania its nothing. and if konami can't produce a 2D game in PS2, they already have PSP which they can create a 2D castlevania game which will be a major hit if they ever created one. So please Mr. Igarashi return castlevania to its 2D roots and original form, listen and believe in your fans and not in commercial gamers, producers and directors.

I dont care what's in it, the words "new 2D Console Castlevania" just screams "We hae a winner!" at the top of it's lungs. btw, i think we're about due for a classic castlevania compilation game :D I'd love to play al of the obscure Castlevanias I missed out on.

2D does not just allow development to focus more on the gameplay, but I also think that 3D's animation makes it imposible to have the fluidity, speed, and accuracy that classic 2D games like castlevania need. As hard as anyone tries, the fun of a 3D game can only come close to that of a 2D game. I think a new console 2D castlevania is an awesome idea. But I dont know if it'd even be possible for the PS3... Ive read somewhere that Sony isnt too fond of 2D games tuching their console any more. If that was the case with the PS2... a powerhouse like the PS3 could probably kill the name of 2D gaming. I hope this doesnt force this new 2D Castlevania to have 3D characters. 3D backgrounds are fine, but look what happpened with Mega Man X7 and X8's gameplay due to 3D characters insead of sprites. One more thing: it'd be cool to spend some time outside and around the castle too. If memory serves... there's been castlevanias that strart off in a village, before. RPG elements, Transformations and Familiars should deffinately not be left behind. but the formula could also use something like a new step for the series...

Inochi said 09/11/05, 10:25 am (verified)
The art and graphics of the 2D masterpeice, SOTN, was not realy the strongest aspect for me. It was the new step that the series had taken. It has been said that 2D gaming puts more development focus on the game than the graphics. As much as I want another beautiful 2D castlevania, I hope it also takes that extra step to give the fans a feeling that last happened when they first played SOTN. IMO, not only has no castlevania suceeded in art and 2D graphics since SOTN, but none have suceeded it in the fun factor and gameplay. Im sure that once Koji gets this chance, it'll be spectacular. And hopefully... it'll be on a console I can afford :/ *prays that he doesnt have to sell his home for a PS3*

Castlevania is meant to be 2D. You can always boost sales with replayability (just look at SotN). On that note, by creating a new 2D Castlevania game and also adding Rondo of Blood as a fully unlockable game as well, you could seal the deal for a great hit on the future consoles.
