2D Castlevanias have been far better than their 3D successors. To quote the popular Penny Arcade: "Just because you learned to scuplt doesn't mean you can't paint."
Far too much emphasis is put on making things 3d that people forget that a game can look gorgeous and still be 2d. Symphony was the greatest example of this. Games developers need to remember that it's gameplay that makes a game. If the gameplay would be better suited to a 2d environment, then don't put it in 3d.
Keep Castlevania 2D!!
Re-releasing Symphony of the Night on the PSP would be a nice touch too since I can't get a copy of my own for PSOne!
But hell yeah, 2d 'Vania!! :D
3D games may be marvelous and an advancement in technology but 2D are pure art. the amount of detail put in the alucard sprite from Symphony of the Night still amazes me.
My favorite game of all time is Symphony of the Night, and I've been playing video games for 20 years now. A 2D Castlevania on current home consoles would be the best move for the Castlevania Series' fans. Who else do you make Castlevnaia games for? Aren't we the reason why castlevania games have been made since the mid-80's? Konami, you want to keep your fans, don't you? More fans=more money. More money=happy thriving company. It can be an endless cycle as long as you keep delivering what we want. Please, keep 2D Castlevania alive, and on home consoles. If Aria of Sorrow was on Gamecube or PS2, I would have paid $70 for it.
"If they give you ruled paper, write the other way." -Juan Ramon Jiminez
Just because everyone is doing 3D doesn't mean you have to! 2D games are just as good.
I'm a big fan of the Castlevania-series . I would love to see a new 2D Castlevania on a home console. And don't forget - there's still people in Europe that love 2D-games! Best wishes from Sweden, Europe.
While games eventually must evolve and march forward instead of stagnate and remain the same--for better or worse--Castlevania is one of the series that I want to do both. It NEEDS to progress and it NEEDS to go into 3D...but there's nothing wrong with 2D Castlevanias at all. Even if the formula remains the same with only a few slight changes, we will continue buying 2D Castlevanias for as long as you put them out. They're the backbone of the series, maybe even the lifeblood.
While Europe doesn't like 2D gaming, we here in North America respect and adore our roots.
I'm from the UK, which is in Europe technically, and I believe that the 2D Castlevania titles far out-perform the 3D ones! The level designs were more complicated, monsters more creative, and it works a lot better than the current 3D offerings. Not saying I don't think the new 3D one will be good, but Castlevania works in 2D. End of Story!
I have played the Castlevania series of games since Vampire Killer was released. I love the 3D Castlevania games, but in my opinion, the 2D games are alot more well designed. Looking forward with open arms to Castlevania on the XBox console!
A new 2-D Castlevania would be great. But have you been thinking about a re-make or something for Rondo of Blood or Symphony of the Night for the future consoles?
Hi! I'm a big Castlevania fan going back to the NES ages with the original Castlevania. I've played through all CVA games that exist and would not mind at all if you made a 2D CVA game again. SOTN was a rocker and happens to be a game I still play yet today! :D
The pleasures of a 2D CastleVania game clearly outweigh those of the 3D... especially when the technology is so advanced these days, the possibilites are endless for a new creation.
I think a lot could be done on the current consoles with a 2D Castlevania. Perhaps even an updated, 2D compilation (Anniversary Set) of the original Castlevanias we all know and love!
Please at least take into consideration making a 2D Castlevania game for home consoles!
Thank you!
I'm 27 years old and have played every CV game that has come out in the US. Myself and I'm sure many others would love (and gladly purchase) a new 2d CV game.
Not only would i like to see 2D upgrades(like Chi no Reinni or Dracula's Curse), I'd also love to see more NEW 2D games. The GBA games are awesome, & while I love both 2d and 3D Castlevania, some of my pals only like the 2D Castlevanias.
I've been a Castlevcania fan since the late 80s, I bought my SNES for Castlevania 4, I bought my PSOne for Symphony of the Night, and I went through hell and high water to play Rondo of Blood. Just keep the good games coming.
if it sotn and had some more challenge was more open ended, had some more sercets and variety (throw in soul system too for extra cool functionallity) then id be glued to it for months without sleeping
2D Castlevania can also rock! See we have the amazing SOTN! Fans concern whether it's a good game with excellent story and characters and we won't be disappointed with Mr Koji Igarashi behind it! We'll show our supports!
Symphony Of The Night was one of the greatest games ever made. But the original games were amazing, too. Any kind of 2D's perfect - be it in the style of Symphony Of The Night, or the NES/SNES games. Castlevania 3 was another of one of the best games - Castlevania or not.
Symphony of the Night is my favorite game of all time. I can't imagine how awesome a 2-D Castlevania would look on a new system. I still think that CoD we be a great game, but I really want to see a new 2-D game.
Please hear us. 2D castlevanias were excellent. it's 2005 with ps3/Xbox 360/Nintendo Revolution right around the corner and i am STILL playing 2D games and SotN. 2D games sell just as well as 3D games if done right. look at Nippon Ichi's success with their 2D strategy-RPG games for proof.
with the 3D castlevanias you have to concentrate a LOT on doing a good 3D world with all sorts of particle effects and lighting and that takes a lot more time and money that could have used to do better things. 2D castlevanias are excellent because they don`t take as much time to do graphically and the game would fit so well in a 2D fashion and you could use your time and money into creating excellent gameplay such as in SotN. the gameplay just isn`t the same since you are basically using a 2D formula for a 3D game.
please, go back to roots and deliver to us, your loyal and long-time fans, a brilliant 2D castlevania worthy of being called the successor of SotN.
Personally,I enjoy any Castlevania titles, both 2-D and 3-D versions. The only reason why I sign this is because I want to play as many Castlevania games as possible
I have not been a castlevania fan for long..mainly because i live in South africa and never really heard of it before , until I finally got to play Circle of the Moon , after that I was hooked , played all other castlevania games , except for N64 ones..But yes the 3D ones lack depth...you can only do so much with a 3D model i guess , where in 2D the possibilities is endless !! 2D PLEASE !!
Don't get me wrong here. I love the 3D Castlevanias. I even enjoyed the N64 games. The environments were creepy, the music was excellent, and for me, that's half the battle. BUT...it never hurts to go back to your old school roots. I love the old 2D Castleavnia games. My favorite being Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse. Konami, you would do really well to make a new 2D Castlevania. In my opinion, you would also do well to make remakes of all the old games and make a compilation set for home consoles. Fans would love you ever more for it. Keep up the good stuff with the 3D games. Just don't forget 2D is still there, and still loved. P.S. Someone should start up a Castlevania III remake petition while we're at this.
SotN is the game that made me need a PSX. I still play in on my PS2 and will continue to play in on the PS3. The IMO the GBA games have been better than than the N64 and PS2 titles. Lets see some more of that that good ol' side scrolling magic!
A 2-D console game would be awesome. Not necessarily with sprites, in fact I think using 3-d graphics, rails and a nice graphics technique like celshading the game could look absolutely beautiful.
I love the Castlevania series, whether it be in 2D or 3D.
I grew up with it (my favorite being Castlevania 3) and would love to see more of it on home consols systems in 2D.
CV series is wonderful. Whether it will be 2D or 3D i'll surely support it.And i just wish play the game a little like "the classic CVs". The claasic style has left away too long, isn't it?
