"Symphony of the Night" and "Aria of Sorrow" are my current favourite games in the series, and "Dawn of Sorrow" looks to be right up there as well. "Lament of Innocence" was good-great, and "Curse of Darkness" looks like it's going to be better, but it's sure going to take a heck of a lot to challenge the 2-D gems.
I have allways been a loyal patron of the castlevania series in both its 3d and 2d incarnations, but speaking someone who has played through every castlevania since the beginning, I have too say this:2d is where its at. Don't get me wrong! I thought lement of innocence was a terrific port of the series to 3d, and I thought it had the best lighting effects ever! But I just dont think it can compare to the fun, and the feel of games like 'Symphony of the Night' and 'Aria of Sorrow'. Furthurmore, I think that if you brought a 2d castlevania Back to the consoles, the company totally backed it, it would do really well, especially considering it would probobly be the only game of its kind. I understand that companies are afraid to release 2d games, but if it is a good game, people will buy it. Sales might be slow at first, but as word spreads on how great the game is sales will rise, and it wil become another classic.
I can't even imagine how well a new console like the 360 or PS3 could handle a 2D game. I'd like to see Castlevania go back to it's roots. Simple walking and whipping.
The thought of a 2D castlevania for this generation or next generation of consoles is TOO FREAKIN MIND BLOWING!! The game would look like a freakin ANIME, better than Sammy's "Guilty Gear" probably! oh my God... YOU GUYS HAVE TO DEVELOPE ONE LAST 2D CASTLEVANIA for consoles!! SHOW EVERYONE how ridiculously ULTIMATE a 2D version for consoles would look.
Love,
Osvaldo
I love the Castlevania series more than any other videogame series out there. PLEASE MAKE OUR DREAMS COME TRUE AND MAKE THE MOST UNBELIEVABLE LOOKING 2D Castlevania game for consoles. Thanks, Your my heros Mr.Igarashi-san and Konami Staff!!
Ozzy
symphony of the night was a success because they united all the castlevania's before it,it all finally made sense,i think they should make one more but make this the greatest & largest not set just in the castle more like castlevania 2 & more the 1 level of intraction mabe set on 3 plains this castlevania should push the imagination of the mind & lastly to konami I know its always about making money but if that thought is not in the process im sure castlevania will once again bring faith into the souls of 2D gamers all over the world like it did in symphony of the night
Castlevania will forever be known for it's awesome 2D adventure. Screw what Europe thinks. There are alot of diehard fans out there and we'd love a new kick ass 2D Castlevania
I'm such a Castlevania fan, that I have my back Tatooed with the picture of the morphing Alucard/wolf/bat/mist,and the castle from Dracula X behind him. BRING BACK 2D CASTLEVANIA!!!NOW!!!PLEAS E!!!IGA!!!
I've been a CV fan ever since I put the CV cart into my NES back in 1985. 2D Castlevania RULES!!! Please come back , with X0box 360 and all , you can make a sweet CV 2D game, OH and please make a Female lead heroine, like Sonia Belmont again.Idea-Maybe the kid of Alucard and Maria, she would kick BUTT!!!
2D Castlevanias are pure art, opposing to the vane videogame industry. We don't need another 3D crap, but a magnificent return to the glory of Symphony of the Night and Aria of Sorrow.
Oh, by the way, I'm spanish, so european, and I LOVE 2D games.
Lifelong supporter of the CV series. 3D is alright, but it will never be able to surpass the glory of Chi No Rondo or Symphony of the Night. Give 2D on consoles one last chance!
greetings from Mexico - I belive a 2D Castlevania game for a console other than the handheld ones is an excellent idea! Please, please do try to get one out in the market.
My first Castlevania game was Symphony of the Night. I then started bying the first three at used game stores. I love the 2D gaming from then and still love it now. I hope a remake of Castlevania III will be made or a port of Dracula X Chi No Rondo. I still play SOTN to this day.
2D Castlevania games are by far better than most games i've ever played. Comparing AoS or SotN to LoI... Aria of Sorrow and Symphony of the Night were both far more entertaining and in-depth. AoS and SotN are also both alot more popular compared to LoI. Also, with the new coming Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow... It's extremely ovbious what the fans prefer.
I've been playing Castlevania since the MSX2 and a big fan of the series and 2D gaming. SotN brought me back into the wonderful world of gaming after a few years break, and still remains one of my favorite games ever.
The Castlevania series is my favourite video game series, and the 2D versions must surely rank amongst the best games of all times. Without the 2D games, the series would surely degenerate into a standard, everyday 3D-action-game series like so many others, or even die out completely eventually, because 3D games just cannot produce the same level of atmosphere or house the same amount of hidden secrets. I enjoyed the 3D games, but they just can't compare to the others. And by the way, I am European (and I LOVE 2D gaming).
I think the 2D Castlevania game are Supperior to the 3D Castlevania games in every way. Lament of Innocence didnt have the right Castlevania feeling and the two N64 games were just horrible to controll. Unlike those three I loved every single minute of Gameplay with SotN. I even bought a used japanese Saturn Console togehter with SOTN for Saturn to see the new Stages/Weapons. The boss Fight against Maria alone was worth the money :3.
P.S. I am from Europa and I do like 2D Games.
SOTN came out at a time everybody thought 2D was over, and it set a new standard for Castlevania. I think the same kind of bold move could raise the series to a new level. After all, it's all about resurrection, isn't it?
I want to play another 2D Castlevania in a home console. Even if it's a Remake of any past Castlevania. I hope if it's the case it would be Symphony Of The Night. For me it's the BEST castlevania ever made. But if it's new it would be great too. PLEASE IGA, listen to your fans and make another 2D Castlevania.
Castlevania 2D is one of the best games i have played. I've been playing SoTn and i still can't get enough of the item hunting and secrets there. The 3D ones only provide you with better graphics but mediocre challenge, Lament of Innocence wasn't as hard as Aria of Sorrow and SoTn. Also, the story line is very intriguing the Aria of Sorrow story Surprised seeing your character be like that. The Items and your equipment are one of the best i've seen with some of the Artifact weapons it made me research and learn them, also the monsters it gave me a deeper insight in my history. So please make more Castlevania, 3D is fine, but it's meant to be enjoyed as a 2D platformer with all its challenges.
I would LOVE to see an OLD school style 2d Castlevania. Symphony was good, and its clones ok but I`d like to revisit the old style, like CV3 and 4. Obviously with the hardware today they could go all out crazy with insane 3d effects, rotating bosses, think about Contra : Shattered Soldier. A CV made like that would kick major ass! Not to mention bring back old school gameplay to the generation of today.
Unlike three dimensional games which tend to lose the focus on what games are all about, two dimensional games focus on what is important and yet have the capacity to be even more artistically beautiful than 3D games. To stop making 2D games would be like burning down every art museum on the planet. You would lose so much. This would be unacceptable.
Let's face it. Castlevania in 2D reigns supreme. Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed LoI, but it just doesn't compare. The GBA games were breathtaking in their own right, but just think of the possibilities for next-gen since we're lingering on that point now. 2D has been dying slowly for sometime, but deep down, those games always posed the most challenge. Castlevania was no exception to the rule and if Igarashi creates one for next-gen or current-gen for that matter, he will have this fanboy along with many others gallavanting happily.
Igarashi I would so enjoy another 2D Castlevania for consoles. I enjoyed Symphony of the Night and years after buying it I still play it. Symphony of the Night rates high on my list of all time favorite video games of all time, The soundtrack...everything was beautiful.
There just HAS to be a 2D Castlevania for home consoles or even PC. SotN was my FAVORITE. A 2D Castlevaina on a console would be SO MUCH BIGGER ! Just imagine a HUGE 2D castlevaina just like SotN ! Handhelds are really limited cause of there space... DVD discs can promise so much more !
I enjoy Castlevaina in 2D MUCH more than 3D. Its the way its meant to be played !
All the 3D Castlevania games have at best been "mediocre", but all the 2D versions have all been outstanding. I will even go as far to say that I would rather play any Castlevania game on NES than any of the Castlevanias on N64 or even Lament of Innocence.
There is definitely room in the videogame market for new 2d games as evidenced by Nintendo's reintroduction of a new Super Mario Bros. game and the success of Castlevania and other franchises on handheld systems. For many consumers, it is the only reason they have the handheld systems. Variety is always good and a new Castlevania in 2D would be great. I'd love to see a release of the PC Engine Dracula X for America as well!!! Bring it all on!
I'm all for 2D on the home console. It leaves not only a potential great length of gameplay, but also a classic, or "vintage" feel given off by older games.
After seeing the sheer detail and 2-D beauty games like Symphony of the Night, Aria of Sorrow, and the upcoming Dawn of Sorrow have shown us, one can only imagine how a 2-D game would look on today's console.
Even though I think there's alot that can go wrong in making 2D CV for the current consoles, I hope the best of wishes for you. SOTNs got a huge amount of fans.
Been a huge fan since day one, please listen to the fans for once who buy the games religiously. Just because the high up at Konami want everything 3d, does'nt mean that's what the fans want. Magazine editors, writers and fans all agree SOTN was one of the greatest of all time, go back to your roots and make the game everyone wants!
Just think Mr. Igarashi, a 2-D Castlevania would have outsold Nanobreaker any day of the week. And for Konami, think about releasing Rondo of Blood and Policenauts if you, a giant business conglomerate, wouldn't mind.
I'm from argentina, and i'am a HUGE fan
of this magnificent saga, for the last ten years i enjoyed EVERY castlevania, i would REALLY love to play another 2D castlevania, just like Symphony of the night, i love the 3d castlevanias, but the 2D are the origin, it would be terrible to losse that origin...
I've Favored Castlevania's 2D so much, Its not even possible to deny, Let the 2D go on, 3D is total basis on technology and ends up with very short gameplay and no replay value, as for the 2D Castlevanias just make you wanna play it all day, perhaps all week without sleep... To get to my point, 2D CASTLEVANIA, ROCK ON THE GOTH GAMEPLAY, ROCK ON THE BEAUTIFUL PIXELS!
I would desperately like to see another 2-D castlevania. Even if it was simply a collection of older games that have been re-vamped (like the "Chronicles" game). With the popularity of "retro gaming" (just look at the NES classics on Gameboy) I think something like this would be popular/profitable enough to devote time and energy to creating. Please bring back 2-D Castlevania to the consoles!
-Matt
The 2D games are the only Castlevania games I'll play as I'm sure is the case for many Castlevania fans. It just does go down well in 3D for many different reasons, maybe some other games, but not Castlevania.
My second videogame was the original Castlevania. It was a classic then, and still is today. Over the years I've played literally every Castlevania ever made, and while the 3D games are admirable, the 2D games will always trump the 3D attempts. So please IGA, grace us with another 2D Journey through Castlevania one the home console of your choice.
Look, most people in this world LOVE SOTN, it is the best along with Aria Of Sorrow being the second in my opinion. Sure this strays from the original Castle vania formula, but they are great games non-the less. Take it from me, I don't want to play 2D games on handhelds, I bought a Gamecube and the GameBoyAdvance Player just for the 3 Castlevanias. I have yet to buy a Gamecube game and have had it for two years. Bam
The 2D games are classics, and art form that many people enjoy far more than their 3D counterparts. Why deprive them of what they love best? Furthermore, certain companies and peoples are reknowned and respected for their 2D works, why take a risk by stepping into the 3D realm when you can stay in an area that you are skilled in and more importantly, respected for.
At the same time, offer those who preffer 3D their share of attention, but don't assume that everyone takes games in that form! No, there are those who believe and feel much more for 2D and the effort put into such games. Don't let it die, or the integrity of such games fade.
I really want games to continue being in 3D, they are more cool!, SoTN, was cool, but now LoI and CoD, are more cool, I'll buy them., I really want CV games to be in 3D, they are cooler you must admit that.
When i was Age 2, i first PLayed Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest. I knew then that i was playing a Classic, When i was around the age of 8 I Bought Castlevania SotN For the Playstation Entertainment Console,Apon playing this i had the Most enjoyable experiance i have ever had while playing a game (a close second would be Super Metroid) The Depth of the game was Amasing, The Graphics Flawless, It was simpley Beautifull. I have since played and Completed the game 32 times. With alucard and 14 Times with Ricter. Now iv played the neer 3D castlevania, While i enjoyed it, it missed many things, the layout was terriable the Speed, was slow, allthought it was faster then otehr 3d games it did not feel Castlevania-ish at all, Rather it felt much like Devil May Cry with a whip.
i am awaiting the Arrive of the New Castlevania DS i have played and beaten every Castlevania to date (includeing the Rare Dracula X for the PCE) If you were to make another Castlevania that was 2D not only would it most likely be considered the greatest 2D game of all time (allthought many people consider SotN that right now)
stay with the 2-D way of makeing Castlevania, since that's true to its roots. also the game is just better in 2-d, even though you can make a game in full 3-D with super dooper amazing graphics, why do it? look at other side scrolling games such as Contra, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Dead or Alive etc. these games all have beautiful graphics but for the most part saty as 2-D side scrollers/fighters. graphics don't make the game and as long as it has originality and it isn't just being made for money's sake, I say keep bringing out 2-D Castlevania games, or any games for that matter.
2D games are an art form and still have a place in video gaming as we know it today. I do not believe the industry has even begun to test the limits of what they can do through existing home consoles and I'm glad to see that there are still developers who are willing to try.
