The 2d castlevania's are some of the greatest games of all time. I still play the gba games while I wait for Dawn of Sorrow, and SOTN is simply put one of the best games ever. The main reason I am so excited about DOS is that the DS is powerful like the Playstation was in its day, but a 2d Castlevania for a next gen system... that would be just too good to be true.
It's not that I didn't like the 3D CastleVania's, I really enjoyed them. But the feeling you get when you're playin SotN... man there really is no other game like that out there!
SOTN is the best game in Castlevania series! Castlevania only in 2d may be so baeutiful, breathtakin & unforgettable! PLEASE,if you return in 2d, with mothern powerful technologies you will create a game, that will be the ARTWORK!
I've been playing Castlevania ever since my cousin bought an NES and the first CV game. We'd always fight over who's turn it was after we died. That happened with every 2D game we played. I'd like to be able to argue about who's turn is next again, Castlevania is certainly better suited towards the classic 2 Dimensional Side-Scrolling View. I played the N64 Versions, they weren't horrible games, they just weren't the type of thing that I enjoyed as much with the older 2D versions. Another game that should stay in the 2D format is Megaman, but thats a bit off the subject. Anyway Igarashi, do this and let no one stand in your way. Don't let a good idea get smashed, like so many others have been.
I, like many frustrated "old school" gamers in the UK, find it hard to find a real good feeling adventure game. Many years ago I stumbled accross SOTN, I have been hooked ever dince. This really is what gaming needs, for the fans. The only reason why I purchased old and new hardware is so I can keep playing Castlevania.
Damn you Konami! How dare you threaten to give up 2D gaming! The Castlevania series is one of the best ongoing set of games, ever!
Carry it on! Or you will be hounded by all the fans of the series!
I have been playing Castlevania game's since the late 80's and the first NES Castlevania, in fact it was the first game I bought for it after recieving the system for Christmas. I have been a huge fan ever since, and absolutely LOVE the recent GBA Castlevania's, and I just can't help but think how awesome a new 2-D Castlevania with today's technology would be. I really hope to see this happen someday. 3D's never done much for me in general, not just with the Castlevania games either. It just seems like an annoyance more than anything else. 2D lets you concentrate on the gameplay, instead of the stupid camera.
a 2d castlevania is what is missing in gaming consoles, with current power a 2d castlevania can truly be a sequel to the amazing symphony of the night, I imagine the art would be fasntastic and the music awe inspiring, please please make this happen!
Castlevania: Dracula X for the Super CD-Rom system is necessary in the United States. Just look at how successful Castlevania: SOTN was for PSOne. The prequel is obviously going to be successful as well! If you don't bring this back, or do a "compilation" of the NES Castlevania games, but remade with 16-bit graphics or 32-bit graphics with remixed music, make another Castlevania that is 2D and plays just like SOTN. With any of these options, YOU CAN'T GO WRONG! Just be sure it's available on PS2, ok? Much Respect, Clay
It makes absolutely no sence that we have to sign a petition for Konami to make a new 2D Castlevania on home consoles. I like the Game Boy Advance titles and the DS title looks great, but I would love to see a sprite-based game using the technology of current or next generation consoles.
Something would be missing if I tried to explain what the Castlevania games mean to me. Everyone of the games are enchanting. The art, music, story, style, legend, and emotion all consumed me from the very beginning...and they were only 2D. As much as I would love to see a new 2D Castlevania on a console, at this point I just want the series to continue on in any form...even if that means Castlevania: The Text Based Adventure Game. Thank you for everything Mr. Igarashi and Konami.
I think Symphony of the Night was probably the best Castlevania made, and would love to see more in the same style. 3D is cool, but it just doesn't feel right.
3d is not the way forward in Castlevania. If oteher Castlevania games are made in the same Quality as SOTN Konami are on to a winner. Get it done Igarashi and team!!!!
Castlevania is the main reason I buy many of my systems, it is one of the few series that I always look forward to dodging pits, spikes, medusa heads, and creative and ingenious bosses. The games lose something when they go to 3-D. Konami is Castlevania for me, and to change one of its flagship titles to fit in with everyone else in the industry, will make me lose faith in a company I have always bought from. Thank you Mr. Igarashi for keeping alive something that is a real "Videogame" and not something designed to follow industry trends. Castlevania is art Mr. Igarashi, and 2-D is what makes this form of art special for a lot of people. Now how about putting out a Dracula X collection maybe :)
David
Castlevania is too good of a series for it to just appeal to people who prefer 3D or those who prefer 2D. Castlevania should come in all forms: 3D, 2D, and even the old stage-based style. I really would hate to see castlevania fall off the way mega man x did. The fans must be heard!!!
the 3d things are stupid! castlevania had this weird...dark,bocky charm! and they killed it all that camera angled, three demensional nonsence! if i wanted realistic i wouldnt play a video game in the first place!
I would love to see a very good looking 2D Castlevani on a console. Something as visually impressive as Guilty Gear X, but with Castlevania style artwork
i'm very pleased with the gba versions but the ps2 versions were a bit below my expextations. The DS castlevania feels very good but please do bring back Ayami Kojima's original art, not the anime styled interpretation.
the 2d series of Castlevania has been the BEST! even if the marjority of consoles have gone 3d, there is a unique charm to the 2d games of old, ESPECIALLY with the castlevania series! To this day, NONE of the series has come close to surpassing Symphony Of The Night!
I suppose that due to fan and media responses, I don't even have to repeat how great Castlevania Symphony of the Night was. Given that the marked allowed the series to branch into 2D (GBA, DS) and 3D (PS2), I believe it's time to reconsider working on a 2D version for the home consoles. There is virtually not many boundaries for developing a truly remarkable 2D experience on the current and future hardware these days. Castlevania in 2D is not a niche market - it's where the series belong.
I still play SOTN to this day so matter how many times I have cleared the game. I need another classic like this for my shelf. Don't disappoint all of us and just look over the fans, we are letting our voices be heard right now
The mere fact that Koji even considers the idea of making a 2d game for a home console brings a smile to my face. In a world gone obsessed with 3d graphics and pretty effects, people have abandoned quality in most games. Castlevania fans don't just need a new 2d game on a powerful home console, the whole freaking industry needs it as a kick in the butt.
We need another game that was as great as SoTN. I tend to regard the new 3D Castlevania's as completely different games; it's the only way I can somewhat enjoy them! Come on, SoTN isn't THAT old (1997) 3D games were more sought after then they are now. Gamers are starting to see through the repetitive nature of 3D games and looking for more interesting games like the SoTN.
Please! SOTN is STILL regarded as one of the best games of all time. The GBA Castlevanias were also excellent. I hate it when developers think 2D is dead - it is not and can be seen if more games used it. GBA certainly isn't slowing down, is it?
Despite the incorrect idea that 3D makes everything better, some games just belong in the original 2D format to keep the gameplay the way we want.
Symphony of the night has been one of the best games ever made, it's dynamic gameplay, along with the vast areas to explore and items to discover, gave this title incredible replay value, I can still start a new file every once in a while and enjoy the unique experience this game provides. I know the market appeal in high end consoles is inclined towards 3d platformers, RPG, and Fps, which is hard to overcome when a project such as a castlevania sequel is on the plans. I want the series to continue as long as possible, but only if they provide the same excitement and thrill the previous ones did, in this chase late titles such as lament of inocence and the N64 games for the franchise didn't make it, it vaguely reminded me of castlevania at all, just having a whip, vampires, and a fight against "the death" ain't enough.
Technology isn't against 2d games, look at "Mischief Makers" another konami title which was able to mix new technology with 2d gameplay and it was marvelous.
I vote for 2D castlevanias, even if the graphics are 3D the gameplay MUST be 2D, that's what matters... I wish to be released the canned Castlevania Resurrection, a complete Dracula X collection remake and its sequel, thanks!
All the great Castlevanias (and any game for that matter) are 2D. 3D games are just not put together right. Please make another SotN style game for the home systems!
Igarashi san:
Castlevania's roots are in 2D. With the technology of today's consoles, I believe that the Castlvania team could produce the most deep and beautiful sprite-based game ever. The series' side scroller type of presentation is by no means a weakness, I believe it is one of its greatest strengths.
We all love 2D castlevania games. If Europeans don't, then don't release it there. Do not deprive the true fans of these great games because one segment does not approve.
For a series that has never let me down in ANY of the 2D iterations. I'll sign. As an independant developer of 2d games I'll sign.
As a fan of the 3d castlevania's, I will not sign, cause I'm not a fan of those 3d attempts.
I'd say go Shattered Soldier style for a new console Castlevania.
C;mon please make a 2d castlevania again. I mean lament of innocence was a dungeon crawler. it had nothing to explore no where to go but through halways and boring rooms. we need a big sprawling 2d castle full of secrets and sprites and pixels! It can be beautiful and be 2d be inovative but stick to the roots of castlevania a castle to explore with weapons and items and magic and SECRETS! Lots of rooms and music and enviroments. LOI was so boringplease please make a 2d game.
SOTN was such a great game, as are all the GBA-DS games. LOI and the 64 games are, politely put, completely lacking. DOS looks so awesome, but it would be ten times as rad if it was on a console. Last time I played a new CV on a console was AOS on my GBA player! I have every CV game to date but I sold LOI back to the EB! DMC2 is a better game!More 2D CV! Stop the insanity!
I personally like both 2d and 3d castlevania I would have to be a graceless fool to say I dislike one over the other because there is allways room for improvement. Number 909 is a fag. Dude what does your last statement mean "another form of 2d perfection" That's pretty gay. Personally I would like to see a 3d castlevania for the next gens similiar to castlevania 64. It might have been like a revamped alone in the dark to some but it was pure game play bliss in my eyes, even though 2d castlevania seems to be more popular
Whether it be a collection, Dracula X, SOMETHING 2D. I will buy it. How about a collection with Dracula X (original), Vampire Killer, and Haunted Castle? Then, a crapton of unlockables, and a list of games with references for Castlevania? Please? I love Castlevania too much to never see another 2D game.
While I appreciate 3D games, I was raised on the 2D environment and still prefer most of my games in that style of play. I find it amusing that Castlevania: SotN was panned by a European magazine on its debute and disgregarded as "antiquated" by a few skeptics, while sporting some of the finest music, gameplay, and innovation seen on the PSX, making it arguably the pinacle game for the system, running along side Tony Hawk, Metal Gear Solid, and even Final Fantasy VII.
While there is the potential to slip into rehashes of tried and true game mechanics (like Mega Man X5 & X6), 3D games are not immune from this disease- aka Tomb Raider. I believe that as SotN has shown, there is room for further innovation along this form of gaming medium. I believe the 2D aspect gives one more of an emphasis to the game for the sake of the game play. One of my most recent purchases was Ys VI, and I have to say that while a throw back to old school gaming days, it did not dissapoint in the least and I was more than satisfied with my purchase. From Ys VI you in turn have the Ys III remake of Oath in Felghana, which won the Editor’s Choice Award at RPGFan.com and a title which I hope to purchase on its eventual release stateside.
I for one would offer support for another 2D Castlevania game simply as an act of faith. The company has produced great 2D games (Contra: Shattered Soldier being far more acclaimed than the bastardized 3D versions of hte series for example), and I believe there will be enough bold innovation to reinvent and seek a greater perfection behind the art of 2D gaming as Castlevania: SotN did back in 1997. I eagerly await the new Castlevania: Curse of Darkness as I do the perspective new 2D console game that should be on its way. I do not want another Symphony of the Night though. I believe there is a better form or method of creating a 2D game yet to be found, and when it is developed, I would appreciate it all the more if one of my favorit
