Efren Paredes, Jr. is serving three life sentences for a 1989 murder and robbery in St. Joseph, Michigan he was accused of committing at age 15. Four other juveniles have admitted involvement in the planning or execution of the same crime and received lenient sentences for their admissions of guilt. One of them was not charged at all.

All evidence in Efren's case is entirely circumstantial. The murder weapon, money from the crime, and the car used in the commission of the crime were all owned by one of the youths and found in his possession after the crime.

Normally people found with virtually all the physical evidence linking them to a crime, particularly the murder weapon, are the focus of police and prosecutors in criminal investigations. In this instance that did not occur and the admittedly guilty parties were allowed to go free or receive deals from the prosecutor.

By signing this petition I am expressing support of The Injustice Must End (TIME) Committee's campaign to obtain a new, fair trial for Efren Paredes, Jr., free of racism and official misconduct. In the alternative, if Efren is not granted a new trial through his court appellate efforts, I advocate that the Governor of the State of Michigan grant Efren a pardon or commutation.
