I support this petition. It is an awful feeling trying to cope what this child and now man has gone through and it is disgusting that the US is the only country in the world where the government locks up youth for life. Free the children and free Efren
Here (Europe) most countries don\'t apply LWOP sentences at all. In Germany, a 15-year old can be sentenced to 10 years (with parole) at the most. Even felons normally effectively serve \"only\" 20 years or even less. And as I\'m fairly content with our laws, I basically didn\'t even have to know anything about Efren Paredes\' case at all to call his sentence a monstrosity - regardless of what he might have done (and apparently it was nothing).
Sentencing children to die in adult prison is shameful. How can we be proud of our country when we are the only country in the world who continues to do this? Even Somalia no longer sentences children to die in prison!
I support this Petition. It\'s time for injustice against minorities to end. Governor Granholm, please find the courage to commute this young man\'s sentence.
I support this petition. I totally support that Efren be immediately released from prison. It is clear he did not receive a fair trial, has served way beyond time the ones guilty of the crime served, but above all that, he is innocent and wrongly convicted.
I support this petition.
The fact that Efren was tried as an adult has led to an even more egregious sentence than a juvenile wrongful conviction. Our justice system must pursue justice to citizens and the community, not just convictions!
I strongly support this petition. Mr. Paredes, Jr. shows every evidence of having been rehabilitated over his 20 yeas of incarceration. The law incarcerating juveniles for life is inhumane, unjust, and badly in need of repeal. I hope that you will release Efre'n Paredes, Jr. and that you will recommend repeal of the law under which he was incarcerated.
I support this Petition.what happened was wrong. could it be stereotyping? who knows the people who konvicted him should be punished as soon as he is released. that is of course hoping he does. i may not know im personally but by wat i have read i believe he shouldnt be in jail.
I support this Petition. I have faith that the Governor will recognize the injustices commited and will set a precedent in regards to juvenile life sentances. I lament the fact that change comes at the expense of Efren's childhood and young adulthood.
