The animals were seized before our eyes by officiell representatives of Greece followed by Mrs. Garagouni, Mrs. Lekakou and Mr. Kariatoglu.
To this date I do not know the reason and I didn't get an answer to my letters yet.
Greece takes an attitude wich is not befitting a member state of the EU.
It's a shame that the EU give Greece financial support.
If the Greek autorities show this little respect... they don't deserve it either. Free the dogs if you think you belong to Europe... If not, you are not worthy!
Some years ago I intended to live on Ctete for the rest of my life and I will beging this on next Friday. But in this situation I am not happy to do this step, believed me!!! I loved this island since 1990, but now I cannot advice tourists, to spend holidays there! I am member of Arche Noah Kreta, and I am very sad - I ask you, let our 58 dogs free and let us continue our help for the thousends of poor animals in crete and all about the world! We love them!
Three of our dogs are among the 58. Arche NOAH was helping us by taking the dogs on transport.I want the greek to explain to the children of the new owners why they cannot have their dogs, because we can't.
Let them free and give them a chance for a better life - why can´t you support the Arche Noah and work togehter to find a final solution for the strays ????
A bunch of “Taliban” ladies are taking advantages of the incredibly tricky legal procedure applying to re-homing strays out of Greece. 1- this procedure has to be immediately simplified; 2- the solution to the present issue with the confiscated 58 dogs can only be political, not legal: the government has to act immediately to unblock this absurd situation.
Free the dogs !!! Show that you deserve to be the descendats of those who gave the name "Europe" to the continent. Stop humiliating our country with such inadmissible actions and such arrogance and FREE the poor animlas NOW !!!
The world has turned its attention on you, Greece, for very negative reasons. Change this by helping these animals and all the other animals that are so cruelly treated in your country.
TRAGIC ADDENDUM: MALTESE STRAY GUNNED DOWN IN ISTANBUL. STRAY WAS EN ROUTE TO NEW HOME IN ODESSA WHERE LOVING HOME AWAITED.
ON A LIGHTER NOTE, A PARAGUAYAN PEASANT BOY RECEIVED HIS MOROCCAN STRAY BY AIRMAIL EARLY ON THE MORNING OF 15 MARCH.
As the driver of the Vehicle that was stopped I can assure you that the behaviour of the greek authorities was not only dumb but not worthy of a country that has EU status.
I am apalled that such a positive event as rehoming can be made into such a horrific experience for the dogs. Greece seems to have a problem with other countries interfering - well, sort out your dog welfare and none of your dogs would need to leave your country in the first place. FREE THE DOGS AND GIVE THEM A NEW START.
What terrible country, where dogs are innocently arrested !!!
Its a Disgrace for the Country Greece and I hope, enough People will show, that they are not agree with the Goverment of Greece and there more protection of animals-hostile Opinion.
Witch Garagouni's nationalistic views are well known to all, but will the authorities thank her for stirring up international outrage, which will no doubt result in fewer visitors this summer? Folks, please untite and support Arche Noah in every way you can, because if they 'go under', then God help animals in Greece!!
Please let the dogs go to the families who are waiting and praying for their dogs. It is the only deseant thing to do and the only right thing for the dogs.
I have had two beautiful greek dogs now and I know these organizations and they only help the dogs and give them caring families and a happy life in safety. Please free them so they can have the life they deserve.
I AM A GREEK CITIZEN AND MORS GARAGOUNH THAT STOPPED THESE 58 DOGS CREATES PROBLEMS EVERY MONTH.SHE IS OBSTRUCTING THE ANIMAL LOVERS TO YAKE CARE OF ANIMALS AND GIVE THEM FOR ADOPTATION.IT S A SHAME AND WE ARE NOT GOING TO LIVE IT LIKE THAT!WE ARE GONNA FIGHT A L L T O G E T H E R!!!FIGHT FOR THE ANIMALS
As a buyer for fruits and vegetables for big super- and hypermarket companies in germany, i will try to influence the buying-policy for greek products as long as the greek ministry for agriculture is not clearly taking position to this incredible things happening in their country!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is NO SANE reason to deny these innocent animals homes that are WAITING FOR THEM.. It makes no sense... Shame on your country's politics that would allow this to happen.
I have been to your country and I saw no signs that you were an animal loving nation, so why pretend that you care now?
I believe the people behind these allegations of the use of the dogs must stand trial, not only on behalf of the dogs, but on behalf of all these foreign animal welfare groupa which names and reputation they have been slandered.
RELEASE THE DOGS AND APOLOGISE.
We are Americans living in Greece by Choice. WE are appalled at the attitude of the Greek Government with regard to the animal population. Please release these animals to M. Noah and show us that the Greek Government and People are not the scourge of the earth.
Catherine's mother (see below). The animal welfare problem in Greece seemed so huge we were at a loss as to what could be done for them. Please don't hinder generous and committed people form helping these dogs.
A country is only nice if they treat their animals with respect and dignity! Greece clean up your act and show the worlsd that you care about your animals!
My mother and I visited Greece over the New Year period and were saddened by the number of strays and their often very poor condition. We fed many dogs and wished that we could bring them home with us, but with the expense of shipping and Australian quarantine laws it seemed impossible. Mum cried for hours when we had to leave them behind, they'd looked so hopeful and trusting. Where people have put themselves to the expense and effort of rescuing and rehoming neglected animals in your country, please allow these animals safe passage to those generous folk.
