We object to Sainsbury's plans for Crosby
Published April 10, 2010
Whilst we support investment in Crosby Village, we object to Sainsbury's planning application for a large new store built over Moor Lane. Their proposals will severely damage the potential for future regeneration and the genuine viability of the village as a community centre.
There are many reasons why the proposals are not of a high enough quality for our community. Some of the main issues include significantly increasing traffic without improving road safety, decreasing security in the pedestrian areas by blocking routes and creating extensive under-croft areas, and reducing accessibility to the new store by placing it at first floor above a car park.
The proposals destroy the historic character of the village by changing the street pattern and building an out of scale large white box for the store, along with other poorly considered new buildings.
We want Sefton Council to reject the current planning application and seek independent expert advice to develop alternative proposals which will provide a better solution for the whole community.
