It would be a real shame to loose this. It may have changed over the years but its still a cool place to go and browse for stuff even if my choices are different now.
Why do people want to destroy Affleks? I dont even use the place, but i could say the same about so much other stuff in manchester, places that dont have the history , character, or are anywhere near as usefull. My mum+dad both use afflecks for things and neither are into piercings and leather, so that tag is crazy. Apart fropm anything the architecture of the building itself merrits it being looked over for development. Its all madness. Manchester is full of awfull buildings that need to be demolished, Afflecks isnt one of them.
This would be a tremendous loss for the cultural heritage of manchester, how many more flash apartments can they build, these flast are killing the city centre, the city centre is over run with them. Closing Afflecks will losse one of Manchester great draws.
The Government should be supporting entrepenures. If it fails to do this England will be taken over by giant US firms bullying them into cutting rates and wages. Its not only 14yr old goths that this effects...WE WILL ALL LOOSE OUT!!! I for1 shall b chaining myself to tha building xXx
Where else can you get such a range of alternative clothing etc. And what a building, we need more hedratage to be saved, and I don't just mean the bricks and mortar.
Afflecks Palace is a vital part of Manchester's life, not to mention clothing retail industry, just as Camden Market is to London. For it to close would be a real detriment to the diversity of the city.
Afflecks Palace is an important alternative shopping experience to visitors to Manchester. It is a refreshing breakaway from the monotamous 'chain' shops that are cloned in every town and city in the country. If we lose this wonderful place , we may as well let the mobile phone company's and big chains take over completely - and we can all shop in Liverpool as it has more diversity already
Afflecks is a central part of many peoples lives, a meeting point, a place to buy cool stuff that is generally unavailable elsewhere in the city and a thriving centre for many small businesses. It took a bomb to take the corn exchange away from the people of manchester and turn it into a shiny monument to big business, don't let them take this away from us and the people who's livings rely on it.
Afflecks is a vital part of so many peoples lives. It's a crucial part of being a student in Manchester and is a hub of activity. It provides an income for so many people and the redevelopment of the site would not only affect the stall owners but would also have a huge effect on the Northern Quarter. It's such a huge attraction in the city. Before I moved to Manchester a year and a half ago the only things I knew about Manchester were football, Oasis, The Smiths and Afflecks.
I think that says something about how hugely important Afflecks is to Manchester!!
Afflecks is part of the heart of Manchester, everyone knows it, whether they go in it or not. It's the only place of it's kind in Manchester, and even the Corn Exchange in Leeds is so often reffered to as a Mini Afflecks. Without it there will be a gaping wound left in Manchester, a hole which will not be easily filled.
I grew up around Afflecks.... From the age of about 12 I spent every Saturday in there with my friends, soaking up the atmosphere, loving the fact I had a place to go where I could be myself. Afflecks is an institution. Closing it will be the start of killing off alternative culture. If all Bruntwood are thinking about are business plans and profits, why don't they spare a thought for the sole traders, the people just starting out? Afflecks gives them an outlet, a chance to have a go and make something of themselves. Why crush that?
Iv lived in manchester for 14 years and loved Afflecks. I moved to australia and there is no where here that comes even close to Afflecks its awesome... Close it and il eat you all. You suck. Im coming back in october for a holiday and if its closed someone is gonna loose and eye.
Oh my
Can't believe this
quite literally actually
no more bead shop?
=O
gosh no more badges
no more random shopping madness
it can't be closing, can it?
xx
if they close it, manchester WILL be affected, maybe not from an outsiders point of view but it'll affect so many people in and around it. i used to go there all the time with my mates until i moved away. it was and i'm sure is still a great place to be. keep it! and don't be bought out!!!
Shutting down Afflecks will decrease the quality of manchesters shopping diversity. it is one of manchesters attractions. Any magazine recommending or reviwing the city's shopping will always mention this place, without it it could be any nondescript high street. surely they wouldnt be so stupid?!?
Ofgs! What is this world coming to?
Town wouldn't be the same with out afflecks... Its mint and the rubber plantation is a big hit and i would hold YOU persobally responsable for nthe rise in unprotected SECKS!
Right then, please keep it open...dont be horrid to the poor moshers :] i love it too x
I go toManchester mainly just for Afflecks, I love the diversity and I can't find any other shop that has all of the different things Afflecks has to offer! If Afflecks shuts then where else will I buy these things? It is amazing!!
