Please dont shut Afflecks! Its part of Manchesters history. It will start the decline of the Northern Quarter from being unique and full of culture to being basically crap!
Afflecks is hugely important in helping young people establish an identity and in ensuring individuality and that not all people turn out the same, wearing, listenin to and acting the same. It would be sickening to see it go...
Gotta keep Affleks open, it's that one little inch of the Manchester that made Joy Division, Happy Mondays, all those Factory spinnofs left. And if you take it away, what do we get? A bunch of new flats? Boy do we need more of those.
you can not, can not, CAN NOT!!! close affelcks!!! It's totally unique to Manchester and is part of the city's personality and culture. People come from all over to see afflecks and buy all the wonderful things it has to offer! it's more fashionable than ANY high street retailer and great for those poeple that just want to be different!
Getting things pierced and buying weird clothes and becoming obsessed with the bead shop are essential parts of growing up in Manc. Don't drive more kids towards bad tracksuits and gold jewellery, please...
I know Im sentimental cos I worked there for nearly 7 years, & the worst thing I ever did was leave that job... But this would be such a loss to Manchester & the weirdo community as a whole, the stallholders cant afford to rent premises outside due to ridiculous business rates so everything would be lost
Don't close afflecks, where else will the scummy adolescents of the north west buy their bad fashion statements from?
Oh and manchester heritage and culture and all that.
i've come from edinburgh before to get stuff out of afflecks. closing this is one step closer to making the world starbucks, mcdonalds and tesco. everywhere.
What are you doing??? You must NOT close Affleck's Palace. It is probably the only real piece of bohemia we have left in Manchester. How short sighted can you be?
How can they close Afflecks? It's the only shopping centre in Manchester with any character, it's my No.1 stop for decent clothes and gifts and I've grown up going there over the years!
Afflecks Palace Means The World To Me. I Can Socaialize, Shop And Have A Great Time There. Clothing That I Purchase From Their Is Only Availiable From There And I Would Be I Ruins If It Was To Close. All I can Say Is Get Off Your Arses People And Get Sticking Up For OUR PLACE. OUR AFFLECKS . OUR HOME
There are only so many flats that an area needs, there are only so many offices etc etc. The thing that attracted people to the Northern Quarter was it's roughness, its feeling of living in a real place, with real people and things that matters. One of the things that matters is Afflecks. Manchester City Centre belongs to the people, not the newcomers who buy a flat because it's useful for a weekends clubbing, butpeople who work there, drink there and party there every night of the week. Building more flats for overpaid nonces who feel that buying for investment is what this city of about merely funds their belief that they can rip a pile of money out of a working city before the baloon bursts.
Afflecks is the Camden of the North. There are precious few places like this, and as such it should be preserved as the renowned focus for youth & alternative culture that it is, not demolished.
Local MPs go on about there not being enough for young people, so why close such a great place? Its is not just a shopping centre but a museum, youth 'club' and collection of artwork. More should be done to help afflecks thrive than more flats!
After the IRA bomb, Manchester lost the corn exchange, now afflecks is the only place Manchester has left for alternative fashion, and small traders. What is the point of building yet more flats, the council are letting Manchester culture get destroyed and there will be no point living inner city anyhow.
Afflecks is a mecca for the youth culture, music, fashion and design scenes in Manchester - it would be a crime to replace it with yet more overpriced city centre flats.
NoNo No don't lose this most important place. My Mum used to work in this place when it was Afflecks store. Its the only thing that brings me to Manchester shopping. I've been shopping here for donkeys years. IT IS the epicentre of Manchester's Youth culture and music scene. Without it Manchester would not be what it is today. Please please don't swap greed for culture.
Afflecks Palace is one of the incubators of future business in Manchester, and a vital cultural nexus. A lot of Manchesters future is germinated in places like this. It's loss would be damaging to the city of tomorrow.
there have been rumours affleck's is to close for years. But we need to make sure it never comes true. They are already converting what used to be the coloseum to flats dont let it happen again
I always go to Afflecks when I visit Manchester. At this rate with all the changes, the city will become a complete bore with nothing remotely interesting in it.
this is pretty much the only decent place to shop in the north. we dont all live in london, and we cant all afford hyped up camden prices. if they do this it will be a serious slump in manchester trade. its the only reason i go there
