Manchester has already been regenerated beyond recognition, for those of us who don't want/can't afford shiny new city centre flats, and who want to keep a bit of the cities cultural history, have a heart eh? People come to manky from miles around just for this place, to close is would be criminal.
Afflecks is like my second home. I live in Wales now and whenever I need anything I come all the way back to Manchester just to go there. It reminds me of my past so it can't go!
Afflecks is a one of a kind place, theres nothing to replace it if it goes.I know people that travel for miles just to shop there, it shouldn't be closed down!
Closing Afflecks sucks! The Corn Exchange wasn't re-opened after the bomb (and it could've been if a bit of dosh had been spent) and now we're supposed to lose Afflecks too? Behave!
We don't need another major Mancunian cultural landmark turned into flats no one can afford to live in. too many beautiful little bits of Manchester are being closed b/c of high rent o0r to make way for yet more posh bars and fancy flats. We're going to end up with flats and over priced bars and nothing else. Don't close it.
Afflecks is an individual, vibrant shopping centre, it would be terrible to see all those small businesses have to close down to make way for more flats or chain stores. It may be in the best financial interests of the owners of the building, but they need to take into consideration their tenants, and the fact that people want to live in the northern quarter because of the shops and businesses which are established there, like Afflecks.
If this goes, Manchester will lose one of the few reamaining things keeping it an interesting city. What about redeveloping the forgotten areas of Hulme instead? -somewhere that needs far more work and attention.
It's a wonderful place, a truly different and vibrant shopping haven for eveything different and inspiring. Every single time I go to Manchester, or even pass through it, I make a point of visiting Affleck's Palace.
Don't let this wonderful place be torn down down and made into flats, there are plenty of other bronfeild sites worth rejuventating that need it far more than this place does.
Afflecks is the ONLY unique and cultural trading venue in Manchester and has been a big part of a lot of people's lives for a long long time. Closing it would be slamming the door in the face of all that is diverse - NOT a good direction for a major city to take. I say build MORE Afflecks's!!!!!! A huge Afflecks market area would be a start
Why change one of the most individual features of Manchester into yet another run-of-the-mill corporate business or structure? Individualism is what sets this city apart from all the rest! Please don't let it go.
Let me get this right... Afflecks is closing, just as Manchester gets the go ahead for a Super Casino... Ever get the feeling it's the type of people Manchester are trying to change as opposed to the city itself?? KEEP AFFLECKS OPEN!!!
Afflecks is one of the main reasons I came to Manchester for uni. It would be a crime to close it down. Manchester will just become another run-of-the-mill boring city centre without Afflecks. Keep it open!!
Closing Afflecks will destroy a number of unique Manchester businesses, remove a viable rung on the ladder to setting up a successful business and remove one of Manchesters' most popular landmarks. I do not want to live in a city that exists solely to support chain stores and property developers.
I spent a huge wedge of my teenage years in Afflecks. It would be a travesty if an agreement can't be reached between Bruntwood and the businesses inside it. People come to Afflecks from all over the country and it is one of the most famous landmarks - and a true part of Manchester. It HAS to stay open.
Well thought out Bruntwood, getting rid of the reasons people like Manchester until no one wants to live here anymore! That'll work in your favour, you tits.
Afflecks has bin ther all my life, im from Preston but afflecks is so convenient and such a good place for all the alternative people in and around manc, closing it dwn takes away a part of Manc and a part of all those who shop ther. SAVE AFFLECKS PEOPLE!!! :-)
This is exactly the sort of place that we should have more of. Why don't we knock down all the duplicate stores that are in one town, and build apartments there? (eg. in Reading there are at least: 2 Waterstones, 2 HMV, 2 H&M, 3 Burger King, 2 MacDonalds, 2 Pizza Express... the list goes on... how does that help anyone? Except for the big companies of course.)
Losing Afflecks Palace would mean losing one of the few places in Manchester that is truly individual and not part of a chain-store homogenised culture!
WHY ON EARTH WOULD MANCHESTER WANT TO LOSE ITS LAST ORIGIOAL SHOPPING ARENA, AND RUIN OPPORTUNITIES FOR NEW DESIGNERS.WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE A CREATIVE CITY, NOT ANOTHER BLAND FACELESS NEWBUILD.
