Afflecks was a formative part of my life in Manchester and am horrified that it could go the way of the Yuppie Hutch. There is no place like it. Hands orf.
Please try to keep a little bit of what makes Manchesster so good, this is part of manchester's cultural history making it unique from most other cities.i travel from my home in Italy to visist there , so it has to be worth it.
I've been shopping at Affleck's for 20 years and I've introduced my friends and family to it - I'd be gutted if it got turned into soulless apartments. Keep it open.
It is ridiculous half the shops are already closed - noone will go to the northern quater without it and all the other 'alternative' shops will go too!! it is def UK known why close it??
I'm from Chicago and one of the highlights of my visit to Manchester was Affleck's Palace. Whether in the UK or US, it is important to keep independent stores open. Affleck's represents the rich history of Manchester pop culture, and I plan to return for a shopping trip on my next visit... it would be very disappointing to discover its no longer there.
This should NOT happen. I was a student in the 80's/90's and went back to Manchester for the 1st time in years 2 years ago. First port of call? Afflecks...It's just part of Manchester and to loose it would be a travesty. Flats? Please...don't get rid of this amazing part of Manchester for bloody accommodation when there's HUNDREDS of empty bloody buildings. LEAVE THE PALACE ALONE!
If this place were any more of a leg-end it would have toes. It's the first destination I head to when I visit home from London, because there are unique shops and handmade brands there that you can't even get in the capital...how's that for a tourism incentive?! Rents should also be kept low enough to allow truly independent traders and craftspeople/designers to sell their items in Afflecks, rather than people who simply buy mainstream stock wholesale and sell it on.
They turned the Coliseum into apartments, the Corn Exchange into the Triangle, let's keep the only bit of alternative culture that Manchester has still got!
I remember discovering Afflecks as a teenager in the 80s. It still has a cool amosphere now. It would be a shame to see a place of character like this disappear.
Manchester is an amazing city were places like Afflecks and the Urbis stand alongside places like the cathedral and more traditional museums. That's real culture, and that's what makes Manchester more than other cities.
Afflecks is the reason to go to Manchester, it is an amazing building and is a great place for the alternative population of the North West, it would be a sad day if it was changed in any way.
I went to Afflecks Palace with my husband on our honeymoon after recommendations from EVERYONE who had been to Manchester or lived there. It was one of the highlights of the city! We've been back twice since, and recommend everyone check it out...please don't take away the coolest shopping centre we've experienced!
Just say no to closing Afflecks!!! It can't happen, i have been going there since i was little with my parents and would still like it to be about when i have kids of my own!
as if turnin Urbis into a urban beach (wot IZ the point?!?!?!?!) now theyre getting rid ov AFFLECKS aswell??? if it closes where else can we go??? its the whole POINT ov town
Like anyone growing up in a small town in the North West Afflecks reassured you there was more to life than the high street and everything it represents. Why not invest in the place? There will always be a place for Afflecks in the same way as Camden Market in London
Developers are taking the heart and soul out of manchester and leaving us with bland housing developments for rich people or a million similar bars. Destroying Afflecks palace is like bulldozing London's Camden Lock, or Soho areas, and filling them with Mark
I think they should convert the palace into anything else. It's ugly as hell right now, destroys the environment, is overpriced, deters tourists, increases taxes, kills seals, does not agree with gay rights, is liberal, touches itself at night (and sometimes during the day, and in public), and supports mac over windows. My argument is infallible.
Aflex palace is such a unige place it would be a crime to get rid of it! When i heard it could possibly be changing i thought it was a terrible idea! It certainly gets enough customers! Way too many people love this place for it to be destroyed! It what us young people adore about manchester! So don't get rid of it!
Affleck's has been part of life for so many people, my older brothers and siters in thier 20's, 30's and 40's all went to affleck's growing up, and remember it as being one of the greatest places in creation! Are you really gonna take away yet another place that teenagers go to be with friends and spend their time in a non-distructive way! Society compain enough that teenagers are yobs and are disruptive...well what do you expect, when you take things/places away from them, that they love, and keeps them out of trouble!
I love afflecks! i was just going through the website and saw this and was like omg. i hardly ever get the chance to go there now that my aunt's moved out of Manchester because i'm not a local, but i've been trying to find a way i can go. it can't close!
Keep it open in it's current form. Another apartment block or a corn exchange/triangle style makeover would be a closer step to the realization of my reoccurring Orwellian nightmare.
This is a feature of Manchester that keeps people coming to the city...surely money could be better spent by supeing it up rather than completely destroying it...this will make the council hugely unpopular with the people
I remember myself and most of my friends going there most weekends when we were teenagers.. and now a friend of my runs a stall there.. this is such sad news particularly because there are quite a few other places that would need closing way before Afflecks should go....
i only went 2 afflecks a couple ov weeks ago for the first time . . and to be frank i was amazed, this store has so much to offer to everyone and i belive ther is no place like it!! personaly i will be very disapointed to see afflecks palace shut down due to such a pathetic reason. afflecks palace is part of our culture wether people want to undestand that or not that is up to them. its not jus a shoping centre its so much more
