keep it openim not from manchester and when i go there its the only place i can get the things i want as the shop where i live have nothing alternative. Keep it OPEN!!! There isnt enough of these places around as it is.
Manchester City Center does not need any more flats. It needs quirky independant businesses like those in Afflecks that keep Manchester's spirit alive!
Affleck's Palace is an institution in Manchester, a mecca for the youth of the city seeking to express themselves through the arts and a staple of the area's cultural identity. To let Affleck's die after 25 years would be a real tragedy, and as a patron and supporter I implore the powers that be to not let this happen.
That's appalling. As a kid I'd have been screwed without Affleck's Palace. If they're trying to sell it perhaps the council should buy it. Just a thought
Bruntswood like all businesses are whores to money. They shouldn't be allowed to sterilise the cities cultural draw. Is this how they demonstrate how much they love Manchester? If Manchester City Council allows this. They should prepare for Manchester to look like every other city and in return should be punished by the electorate.
I spent a lot of my formative years in Afflecks Palace, immortalised in the Stone Roses Sally Cinnamon video. Surely it would br CRIMINAL to close it down.
How many more yuppie flats / office blocks / Starbucks do we need. We need individuality in the city and this is what Afflecks is. Shame on those responsible. Heritage and culture, not profit and greed.
surely you cannot close afflecks!!! no hacienda! no factory records building! no boddingtons brewery god what else are you going to take from manchesters proud history!!save it for the mancs!!!
do not close afflecks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!
I can't believe it. I've spent many hours in Afflecks over the years. It can't go. It's such a brilliant place for supporting small budding entrepreneurs!!
even though the place is becoming more and more commercial, this is still a major landmark for manchester and to destroy this for mild financial gain is petty and heartless. Shame on you accountants who can't see past the figures on your balancing sheets and are willing to sacrifice a community's heritage for profit.
Individualism through alternative culture has been Manchester,s signature for the best part of a century. Are wec to witness the death knoll of another cultural icon? We need another block of flats or costa coffee like we need a hole in the head. Do the right thing landlords. Your country NEEDS YOU.
First it was rumoured to be closed in summer and now the threat is back for new year! T_T closing afflecks would be the biggest travesty of justice ever to befall anywhere in england. It's the only modern, alternative bit of culture left in manchester, thousands of people come world wide JUST to visit there! it's the highlight of any tourist trip to manchester and one of the only places in Britain to actually buy a range of alternative clothing under one roof!! If afflecks closes the only place people like me will be able to buy clothes from are the overpriced costs of the internet or whitby which only happens twice a year!!! Afflecks created the heart and soul of manchesters alternative industry. Why should we have to conform to the rubbish in primark and other ordinary shops if we have nowhere to shop? plus if it is turned into flats have they even seen the area it's being built?theres strip joints nearby, drugs go on down there, theres a gun shop directly opposite and countless violence and drunks at night. Noone in their right mind would buy one.
Afflecks is without a doubt THE most important cultural center of Manchester, and...they're actually considering KNOCKING IT DOWN????This is the problem with capitalism (one of many)They dont even have the right to knock it down. They might hold the deed, but it belongs to the people of Manchester. If the petition fails, we shouldnt just give in, we should barricade the place and just not let em in to remodel. If they come along with bulldozers, we can barricade the ends of the street. The place cant be that hard to defend, its practically a fortress.
