if you actually care about manchester then you will leave afflecks open...if you close it for falts it will be a major blow for all age groups...people find it a great place where you can buy nearly every thing there is just so much to do PLEASE DO NOT CLOSE IF YOU DO YOU WILL BE CONSIDERED THE BIGGEST TOOLS IN MANCHESTER
i'm not like someone who lives in that place, but you can get good clothes and peoples lives have gone into it, their blood sweat and tears, then suddenly poooof its gone.the manchester kids will not let this happen.just think of all the lovely people selling their lovely clothes at lovely cheap prices.
as a gay teenager in the manc. area, afflecks is where me and my boyfriends go on dates! i love it! and i can tell you ive bummed many a man on that top floor aswell;) XxxxX
i am a 16 year old girl, and basically live in afflecks palace, it is the best thing about manchester, and manchester would be nothing without it to be honest, it is the place for the people of my generation to be, afflecks sets all the latest trends, and also has there own unique trend, which is the best thing about the palace. if afflecks was closed down, manchester would be like every other city:boring. afflecks palace has made the northern quater what it is today, the uniwue, vintage part of manchester. please keep afflecks palace open.
DON'T F*CKING CLOSE AFFLECKS!!! IT'S THE ONE PLACE IN MANCHESTER YOU CAN BE YOURSELF AND RELAX. I'm protesting, I've decided. SCREW THE MONEY, KEEP THE INDIVIDUALITY. Kill Afflecks, you kill Manchester. Let's start a f*cking riot people. Afflecks Palace>Every other shopping centre. EVER.
I have not been able to find such a wide array of affordable and original jewellery/clothing and accessories held together inside a building with such character anywhere else in the city. There is something for almost everyone in Affleck's Palace and it would be sad to lose a unique part of Manchester's Northern Quarter.
Why destroy something which provides such diversity, uniquity and wonder in a city which attempts to generate a vision of culture and variety. This is more than a collection of shops and should be cherished and allowed to stay for as long as it can keep paying its rent.
Manchester has always thrived on creativity and colsing Afflects palace down would just make it like any other non descript city. anyway where else would I go for a genuine 70s shirt and flairs.
With sales in city centre flats in decline and the housing market generally stalled why close a thriving buisness and city centre icon to build more? It would cost a fortune to create an equally well known brand - And there are plenty of other sites and empty properties available for conversion across the city. It makes no sense on any level - except I suspect to the greedy developers. The council could help the situatuation by reducing rates for the individual stall holders - and perhaps a lower rate for the owner as long as it remains the Afflecks we know and love.
Kicking them out now would be short term gain for long term pain. If Afflecks goes, the people of Manchester and beyond will be far poorer. Afflecks is a beacon of creativity and also a tourist attraction. The owners should remember Afflecks brought a derelict building back to life when it was dead.
If we can't save Afflecks then at least protect the independant nature of the Northern Quarter generally before I leave this sinking ship for somewhere else which isn't selling itself. This is not Manchester's renaissance, this is its decline back into the lifeless shithole it was before THAT Pistols gig. Have a look at Castlefield today if you don't believe me.
Afflecks Palace is integral to the popularity and community of The Northern Quarter. If Bruntwood have any sympathy for the life and soul of our great city, they will allow Afflecks to remain open, even at their cost.
The Northern Quarter wouldn't be such a cool place if it wasn't for a very few original places like Afflecks. There are enough luxury flats around, what you need is unique places like Afflecks to stay open so that people have a reason for wanting to live in the area.
Why shut down Afflecks palace, THE onlyu good shopping place in Manchester. The Arndale Centre has about 3 of each store (2 Game, 2 HMV) and they shut down the only place worth going. I travel 20 minutes on a train to vixtoria just to go to afflecks palace. They shouldn't be allowed to do this!
Affleck's is a such a big part of Manchester's identity, fight the corporate suits and let creativity and individuality win for once. Don't let Manchester become a bland sea of beige like every other city in this country! Fight the power and live the dream- yeah!!
I think it is terrible that soemwhere that was so central to Manchester city centre regeneration and youth culture should go. i makes me so sad and very angry. Can't the city council do anything to intervene?
Afflecks is unique and comparable to other famous alternative shopping centres like Camden Market. The council uses it as a claim to fame in all its literature to encourage tourism and investment soit should do something to save it. You can't trade on the name of Man Utd all the time to sell our city, save what makes us special...
Afflecks Palace has been a creative hub for a long time and provided a launch pad for many of the cities enterpreneurs. It also offers a meeting place for young people and allows independents to flourish. This is what Manchester should be about.
Unique places bubbling with character and cultural history (Afflecks has been host to numerous alternative fads and ways for decades) are few nowadays in cities, please don't turn this into another dull conventional shopping complex, the Arndale is big enough and shit enough to keep everyone happy.
