Until the age of 14 I had been subject to the usual child praying marketing, i wanted to be thin and work in Topshop- until I went to Afflecks Palace, this place is one of the few last places which has soul in the northern quarter and having inspired me to become a more open minded and tolerant indiviual it would be a social travesty to see it go
Afflecks Palace is like an institution; a part of Manchester's culture that is irreplaceable; it is unique, likewise, Johnny Roadhouse's music shop which would be sorely missed if ever it were to be demolished. I cannot believe that Afflecks Palace is under threat. It is known far and wide and people travel into Manchester specifically to visit the place let alone to buy anything. In 2001 I brought a young student of mine at the time, over from Botswana for a visit - he was awestruck! It is a place like no other and it would leave a cultural void if all the vintage shops were to disappear. The Northern Quarter is in the ascendancy; it is does not make sense to rip the heart out of the area by turning Affleck's Palace into apartments!! One of the things I particulary love about Dublin is the pockets of vintage shops hither and thither lending character to a quickly developing city soon to be rendered unrecognisable if care is not taken. We must fight to keep our cultural heritage, otherwise the Urban Splashes of the world with just take over - nothing against Urban Splash particulary, but this is not a bespoke outlet and will soon have a monopoly like all other well-intentioned organisations, I fear!! I can feel my indignation building as I write and feel that my point has been made sufficiently to warrant attention. I sincerely hope that many others feel as strongly as I do about the proposed closure.
Afflecks is unique and is known all over not just england but europe.it is part of manchester history and brings people to the city therefore contributing to the real economy and not a false one.
Affleck's has been at the heart of Manchester culture for decades, please don't let it close! It's the only thing standing between Manchester and mass homogenisation of retail and culture.
Afflecks has sooo much history and brings so much individualisation to manchester. its a social statement about manchester, highlighting our diversity and its part of manchester culture, a HUGE part. manchester just wouldn't be the same without it!
If the alternative sean goes in Manchester I dont think I will bother go to Manchester again to spend my money again. there are too many plastic shops and I just dont suport these in anyway, people who go to these places are all sheep.
save afflecks! manchester will be dead without it! go build your swanky city centre apartments somewhere else. surely there's some disused mills or factories left in manchester? independant designers need afflecks palace, without it manchester will loose young entrepreneurs and the city will become stale.do we really want to drive yet more of our northern talent down to london by taking afflecks away???
Why would you want to destroy a fundamental part of manchesters culture??? Already 7000 signatures - don't turn your back on the young people that help make manchester what it is! A bright, diverse and exciting place!
keep afflecks open ffs !!!!its the only decent place with clothes i actually likeand it has been like a second f**king home to me for 2/3 years or so now !i mean, if it closes, where the bloody hell else is there to go for clothes like that ? im sorry but i think people agree with me when i say im not trecking all that way to liverpool quiggins every time i want a top, its not as good there anyway.annoyed now !
Manchester just wouldn't be Manchester without Afflecks! It gives us that extra bit of edge to the other cities in the North! We need our Palace! Where else to get overpriced crap that hardly anyone else has! and where else to laugh at that many emos
Fukin obsered I tell ya! Best shop in manchester i tell ya!Part of Manchesters history, and u fukwits r possibly getting rid of it! KEEP AFFLECKS OPEN!!!!!!
Afflecks Palace is a great place. My friend brought me there when I was visiting not too long ago and I loved it. The fashion there was all very unique and interesting. I had a great time browsing and shopping there. It would be a shame if it were not there when I returned on my next visit. Please keep this place in business.
if afflecks closes then well done brutnwood for destroying the last bit of culture and individuality that manchester had left. what next eh? china town? canal street? victoria station? why not just shut all of manchester in your need for domination and destroy the city?! there is NOwhere else in britain like afflecks. WE DO NOT NEED MORE FLATS!
How can they possibly close Afflecks, its a world famous part of Manchester. It symbolises that manchester is original and safe for everyone. So many people are going to feel excluded from the city itself if they are allowed to close Affleck's down.
AFFLECKS PALACE CANNOT BE SHUT DOWN!!!!!!! ITS A LANDMARK FOR SHOPPING IN MANCHESTER YOU CANOT GET HALF OF THE UNIQUE CLOTHSTHEY SELL AT SUCH GOOD PRICES ANYWHERE ELSE!! PLS PLS PLS PLS DO NOT CLOSE AFFLECKS PALACE NO MORE APARTMENTS PLS!
You should keep afflecks open cos its the coolest place ever. Its a hangout for kids like me, and keeps us off the streets. The shops are dead cheap, so we can afford our individuality. Those highstreet shops such as newlook, topshop etc. are just too expensive.it has everything there we need. under one shop !!:)SO DONT CLOSE IT DOWN !!!!
