Afflecks is a true Manchester legend, for every one person that writes about Arndale / Triangle shopping in Manchester, 10 write about Afflecks... Its unique independent and creative and needs preservation :)
Afflecks is part of manchester tearing it down would be destroying part of manchesters soul there are too many red brick flats and mainstream shops already don't let afflecks be another victim of modernasation
Afflecks is a source of great culture and individuality that makes Manchester stand out from the corporate banality of superstores and fashion outlets.
I hope that Afflecks stays open but in truth it is the last bastion of what Manchester was and isn't anymore. In a way the city has moved on and left the people of Afflecks, Eastern Bloc, Fat city record, Vinal Exchange, Hussain's Barbers, Factory, Isobar, Dry Bar behind. The Northern Quarter has sold out to the Castlefield Crowd and so maybe it is only a sign of the times that Afflecks will fall to inner city trendy apartments. Tibb Street used to be where you'd say your mates mam worked, now that would mean she is in the Creative Media industry. Sad times but it was bound to happen!
this is taking the piss seriously!afflecks is a huge part of manchester and shouldnt close becuase it means alot to so many people, and its one of the few places for alternative people to go. if you take afflecks where are people going to go? theres been scares for ages but i cant believe people actually have the heart to close when it means so much to so many people. SAVE AFFLECKS!!!
I practically grew up in Afflecks. Every weekend I would go there just to keep up with the different stalls and stores that could be there one minute and gone the next. That is the beauty of Afflecks. The Variety. I'm 28 and have been going to Afflecks for over ten years. It cannot be allowed to close.
If You Take Away Afflecks You Are Taking Away A Part Of Manchester Which Well Known To Many, I Mean For Christs Sakes Its Even On Bleedin Wikipedia !!!
there outa be more places like afflecks! It offers an individuality and an other worldlyness that is lacking in the average shopping spot! i love that you're never 100% on what you'll discover, shutting it down will b e another step towards standardisation in shopping!
i have been going to this place since i was a kid and so has most people i know. it is a place of heritage for most mancunians! sort it out, this must be stopped./ save afflecks now!
I remember accidentally finding Affleck's on my first visit to Manchester and i've never looked back. it was a factor in me moving to Manchester for uni as i loved that it was individual and quirky and i never had a problem finding presents for people and treats for myself. Dont close it!!! Manchester wont be the same without it!!!
lets not turn the whole of manchester into a disneyland commercial soul-less city (printworks). people love afflecks, everyone knows it. manchester is losing its indivduality.dont let it carry on!
Afflecks has always been a keystone in the community for alternative fashion and culture, closing down this landmark building is in line with the closure of the Corn Exchange in Leeds as well as buildings that dont follow the mainstream [but are highly successful] all over the country. It is more then an attack on fashion, its an attack on a community and culture!
I am from Manchester Afflecks is the onlt reason i really go in to town apart from the pubs/clubs! i know alot of people who work there and will all loose the jobs they love if it closes! also were will alll the kool individual shops go if it get closed! answer is probs no were becuse rent is to high.
Afflecks Palace was a hub of activity when I was growing up, and inspired me so much when I had dreams of becoming a fashion designer (I am one now!) It is essential to keep Afflecks open as it supports the niche markets and small designers and entrepeneurs that are so integral to Manchester city life. Every city you go to now is overcrowded with chain shops and department stores, all selling the same things- it's so refreshing to have somewhere to go that sells unique products and has such a youthful feel to it. Stop turning places of culture into money making schemes! I think there would be a lot of bad feeling if Afflecks does close- it also provides a place for young people to hang out. There's no where else in the world like Afflecks (and believe me I've shopped all over the world in my job!) It really is an institution and should stay as such.
