I support the fight against pro-ana, as i struggle with an eating disorder and it should not be glamorized or encouraged. I just am angry because most people with eating disorders arent shallow and dont do it to be as thin as models. It is brought on by psychological problems and an eating disorder is a form of a coping skill. I am upset to read that people believe that anorexics do it just to get thin and that its because this society is all about being thin. That\'s not at all what it\'s about and it really doesnt have anything to do with the food itself. Feelings of pain and sadness are expressed through the struggle with food. Please do not think that people who struggle with anorexia nervosa are shallow and just want to lose a few pounds

Apparently you think it\'s okay to tell ALL teenage boys that they should ONLY be attracted to curvy women? Use your brains, people. You are ignorant. STOP BASING PEOPLE\'S WORTH ON THEIR LOOKS.

The fact that these sites continue to flourish is appalling. I first handedly experienced the negative effects that pro-anorexia, or “pro-ana”, causes. Last year, I joined one of the largest pro-ana sites on the internet because they claimed to be a place of emotional support, and as a victim of anorexia, I felt alone and misunderstood. I would like to point out that Pro-ana sites do not intentionally encourage people to starve themselves; unfortunately, those who subscribe to these forums are suffering from a mental illness and are in no state of mind to be offering advice to vulnerable strangers. Without knowing it, their “support” for one another actually drives each other deeper into a life of self harm and deadly habits. I witnessed this daily, but I was so consumed by my disease that I didn’t even realize what was happening. For example, a user would write a post about how upset they were with themselves for eating 300 calories in one day, and within several minutes they would receive numerous responses comforting them and telling them they could jog it off, or make up for it by fasting the following day. Don’t get angry with these people, because they THINK they are saying the right thing, but they aren’t! They should be saying that they need to eat more, but how can they convince someone else of that when they can’t even convince themselves? As an avid user of the website, I did not see anything wrong with the encouragement I was receiving until I was hospitalized. I still can’t visit any pro-ana links in fear of reading the posts and relapsing. Anorexia is an extremely dangerous condition and pro-ana websites only feed the unhealthy mindset of those who suffer from it. Please, stop these sites from causing more damage than they have already done for me and countless other individuals.
