There are many people throughout the world who do not recycle or use paper wisely. Not many know that out of the 85.5 million tons of paper that the USA uses each year, only 22%, or 19 million tons, is recycled. Many people do not care about how much paper they use or the impact it has on the earth. For example, some may throw out a slightly bent sheet or use an entire sheet for a few small notes. They may think there is an unlimited amount of paper in the world to be used, without consideration. This is a large problem, and Readington Middle School could do more to help with the cause.
RMS has recycling bins in every classroom. Unfortunately, they are not being used for recycling purposes, but for general trash. The Board of Education must believe that it is not worth the effort; and this is a shame since this alone would save the largest amount of paper waste in the school.
The school could cut paper usage in half by using smaller sheets of paper for homework and general announcements. It is wasteful to see something printed that takes up less than one third of a sheet of paper. It is even worse when you realize that it is being printed for each of the seven hundred twenty three students that attend RMS.
By not recycling, Readington Middle School has decided to destroy more of our precious environment. This will endanger the lives of animals living in the wild. Many people love animals and would hate to have them die for our paper use.
Not using paper responsibly wastes school money, is bad for the environment, and sets a bad example for the students. Even though recycling may take some time and effort, it is well worth it. There are many who agree, and if enough people sign this petition, who knows what would happen. Recycling and using paper wisely will help maintain the world of today, and tomorrow.

In this day and age it is unbelieveable how ignorant people are. Or do they just not care?
