Ban the Vuvuzela
Published June 13, 2010
Dear FIFA.
We are a group of people concerned that the World Cup 2010 in South Africa is being ruined by the use of the plastic horns known as Vuvuzela in the arenas. We recognize the use of Vuvuzelas as part of South African football culture but we feel it is a negative culture that suppresses other parts of the game that we feel are more important (for example, cheering, hearing, communication, concentration, tactical leadership). Just because something is an integral part of a culture doesn't mean that it's something that must be preserved. Since studies have revealed that the noise made by these instruments are hazardous to the hearing of both players, staff and audience we think that bringing a Vuvuzela to a game is similar of bringing any other object that could be harmful to another person and that would make it easy for you to simply banning it from the football grounds. Forever.
