Discrimination should not be tolerated by civilized society. The investment is not in the material cost of a public "skatepark"(which should be called "ramp park), but the investment should be in the youths of the community, therefore if the park is designed incorrectly than the logical thing to do is to correct that. But sadly ignorance must be changed through education. Inform the municipality about the BMX community and its contributions, needs and hopes for the park.
if you dont let bikes into the parks, then dont get mad over them being around the streets. they have no where else to go but there. pegs dont damage anything, that's what coping is for. skateboarders are more dangerous then bikes. the least they could do is make certain times for bikes and an equal for skateboards and blades. or make another park for only bikes.
because i dont see a valid reason in not letting bikes into sakteparks. ive heard ppl say "some bike riders dont use brakes" and "no brakes is dangerous" well you know what. . .skateboards and rollerblades also have no brakes too. also giving bikers somewhere decent to ride will help keep them off the streets away from drink & drugs. so think about it.
all bikers need a place to ride, cause we get kicked out of everywhere we go around towns and places like that and everyones always complaning so let us in a damn "skatepark"...
skate parks that are anti bmx are wrong. when was the last time you saw a bmx flying head hight with no rider? skate boards are dangerous more so than bikes
This type of unfounded discrimination has no place in today's societies.
Here in England we have no rules as ridiculous as this regarding bikes in parks. BMXers have coexisted with skateboarders and rollerbladers since the beginning. And guess what? The parks, as mentioned in the petition appeal, have stayed in perfect operating condition. Being a local BMX rider at the famous concrete park in Southsea and having traveled to many other parks, I have witnessed this first hand. At no public skatepark in England will you find a ban on BMX bikes.
Why is this? Could it be that bikes have just as much right to ride a skatepark as rollerbladers and skateboarders? Yes, it is possible for BMXs to cause damage over time, just as it is equally possible for a skateboard to cause damage to a park. However if a park is built correctly, this damage will be very minimal and will last decades without any maintenance needed.
How can this be achieved? Spending more on the construction of a high quality park in the first place may sound expensive in the short term. Nevertheless it makes sense long term when maintenance costs become nonexistent, costs such as policing also drop significantly and equality has prevailed.
Is this banning of bikes in US parks a cover up? Are the US councils insecure about the quality of the parks they should have provided, and have not? Didn’t segregation go out of fashion a while ago? Obviously the segregation trend is still booming.
It is quite clear that the US authorities in many areas need to start learning because history is repeating itself. The US history books are riddled with segregation, discrimination and inequality to this very day (this is a prime example). Funnily enough, is America not the land of opportunity, free speech and equality?
So please, listen to the voice of equality and sign this petition.
If its an issue of skaters and bikers riding at the same times- then just have days when bikes are allowed and post it. Also, basic urban development principles state that it is impossible to build something for public use and then allow one certain group to use it while excluding another.
I thinm it is pathetic that bmx riders are not allowed to use skateparks. im from australia and all the skateparks here allow riders and ther isn't a problem
Yeah im down with you guys getting a place to ride. Or you could try to get a Bike park built instead of trying this way. Just try to get a bike sponser to help out.....
I support this petition becsude if were in my town I would want to ride it and just thinking about the cops coming to kick me out makes my blood BOIL !!!
