While I am lucky enough to have a working X-Fi, what Creative has done is inexcusable. What daniel_k has done, they cannot. In a jealous rage, they (legally) took action. But just because it's legal doesn't mean it's good for business. After I got my X-Fi I just thought everyone ranting against Creative was bitter, but now I see otherwise. Creative screws over its customers, closes its ears to the problems its faulty drivers cause and is in general so willfully ignorant I will not buy anther card from them.
I bought a Zen16 and am appalled at the 32 pages of support request for the advertised SDcard integration.I am furious, however, that Creative are charging twice the prices in the UK as they are in the US.
After all three Creative DVD-ROMs that I put in my sons gaming systems died within a year. The snap crackle pop Sound Cards. I won't by another Creative Product. Oh! I almost forgot to mention the arrogant
I could care less about Vista drivers, even though Creative should be making them for ALL their products. However lack of Linux support is unacceptable. We will no longer purchase ANY creative products for our enterprise.
This situation is atrocious. Having multiple issues with other products and vista drivers myself, I understand what these creative customers must have to go through to get their purchased products to actually work. This is inexcusable.
This is largely moot since I smashed my AWE64 and boycotted Creative products after they hadn't released drivers months after Vista RTMed. That was about a year ago.
Screw creative... Just finished removing their soundcard from my system. Will be using my onboard audio from NVidia since creative wont allow support of third party drivers that actually benifit the company...
I have been waiting for a functional Vista driver for my X-Fi for over a year. I've since bought two other cards from another vendor. Are you listening Creative? Two sales that went to your competition cause you can't get your shit together.
Creative has long had a history of crappy driver support. Writing off whole generations of high end audio products is stupid. I work in a computer store AND I will be supporting the boycott of Creative by not selling their cards.
I purchased a $200 Soundblaster card and the driver support has been total crap after a year from purchase. The time has come for me to move away from this poorly run company!
Creative has soiled their name that was upheld with pride 10 years ago. I’ve been boycotting Creative for six years due to poor software support and I am completely appalled by this recent incident. As far as I know, Creative has the same Linux support as they did six years ago which is 3rd party drivers only. If this is the case, and they are making a stance against 3rd party drivers, then it will cut-off the Linux community. While they already lost me as a customer, there are many more that they can lose by making such a stance.
I am SO glad I seached the net for reviews on creative cards and went with a xplosion instead, reading all the posts about creative now makes me realise what a lucky escape I had.
I'm a brand loyal guy. One of the reasons I am is so when crap like this goes down I can say this: Every computer (minus one laptop) I've ever owned either came with or was modified by me to have a Creative card in it. Until they fix/retract/congratulate the boy for making their cards work on Vista and support such. I will not spend a single dollar again on anything that bares that brand name.
Creative: I have canceled pending orders for your products and will no longer purchase your items for my business. It was bad enough having to explain to customers the shortcomings of your hardware due to crippling drivers drivers but now you see it fit to threaten someone who is adding value to your devices by resolving your issues? Seriously, your software team needs to be fired and you should be giving Daniel_K a nice hefty salary for the work he has done since apparently you are incapable of writing drivers for your own hardware. You say this is because he is making money from your property? He should be compensated for the time and effort he has put into doing what you refuse to do. You know what I'm thinking right about now? Class action lawsuit is what I'm thinking. Pass this by your legal team: Creative is knowingly distributing hardware with crippled functionality due to their negligence by distributing improper drivers for said hardware without clearly detailing these limitations on the product packaging.
This is pitiful. How is it that a huge company can be upset for a man asking for donations for all his effort to bring the support of a sound card to Vista--an OS Creative said it would support. Proof that some people should not be making the comments. Also since the XFI line of sound cards don't work on Linux; I now have a new sound card that I will be installing in my PC.
Creative has been on a landslide for the past X number of years anyway. Them being the only 'well-known' soundcard manufacturer, they produce bad products and drivers because they can. All hail AC97! lol
I have always purchased creative products for my computer for the last 10 years. Becuse of the way this was handled I will no longer make a purchase of a creative product in any way. Creative should not attack people willing to support a function of their product.
Running the 'outlawed' drivers now, as it's the only way I can get EAX despite MANY tries in vista. Thanks Creative for letting me find out about the new asus xonar cards. My Audigy 2ZX from five years ago will be the last of your products I buy.
You shouldnt be purporting your products as Vista capable when they are not. David_k has done a service for you and you shot down your only chance at stayaing alive. Shaem on you!
