The brother and sister musical act, the Carpenters, scored numerous chart topping hits during the 1970's, putting them into an elite category of multi-million selling musicians. Karen and Richard Carpenter were the dawn of a new era that had been preceded by the Viet Nam war, domestic discord among the hippie generation, and a musical sound that expressed political turmoil worldwide. With their sweet harmonic sound and lush orchestrations, the Carpenters were a carefully crafted pop phenomenon hailed by then President Richard Nixon as, ''young America at its best!''

The incredible instrument of Karen Carpenter's rich alto range, and the impeccable musical delivery from both siblings, were the genesis by which the Carpenter’s found their way to the top of the musical charts.

During their reign as pop superstars, it was considered by "hipsters" to label the group as "bubble-gum" music. It's no wonder why so many fans have emerged over the years, claiming that they were "closet Carpenter's fans".

The fact that Karen and Richard Carpenter have not been singled out by their peers, as an influential recording act from the 1970's, seems to be an oversight of ignorant proportions.

It's been nearly 25 years since the beloved Karen Carpenter succumbed to complications brought on by the eating disorder, anorexia nervosa... plenty of time to say, THANK YOU CARPENTERS for a lifetime of brilliant music!
