Dear Mr. Carter,

We will not insult your intelligence by discussing the details of the cases but any honest person must be ashamed for you after hearing your stand in the current Ethiopian election process. It is simply replete with so many biases and tilted so much against the Ethiopian people that it is impossible to leave without comment.

Your very biased statement has begun when you hail the election process as “fair and free” at the moment you enter the Addis Ababa Airport. A statement that undermines the views of the democratic forces, the Human right groups, the European delegates and of the Ethiopian people at large, which confirmed so many abuses ahead of the polls.

Your statements did not even take in to account of the regime’s credibility questions raised by former secretary of states Madeleine Albright, who chairs the National Democratic Institute, one of two US democracy advocacy groups. She said last week that the expulsion of their staffs from Ethiopia last month raises questions about the credibility of the country's upcoming elections.

We, the Ethiopian nation, also feel pain and disappointment by your blatant statements you do by comparing the degree of “democratization” in Ethiopian with that of Somalia, a nation that doesn’t yet exists as a state. But the fact remains that you have brought shame on yourself.

Despite the concern by State Department spokesperson Richard Boucher of Meles’s ban of post-election demonstrations, you have blindly backed and defended the demo-ban. Americans want democracy to prevail on Ethiopia. For democracy to prevail on the country however, a one-man decision against 70 million people should have not been blindly backed.

The fact is that the credibility of the Ethiopia’s 2005 Parliamentary election has been thoroughly undermined by rampant election fraud, including vote-stealing, ballot box stuffing, and manipulation of vote total attempts.

Sincerely,

Kinfu Assefa,
A European based Ethiopian Journalist

Dear Mr Carter, I read your recent report how you support Mellese and Essayas when they were rebels by having a meeting in different European cities. Its so shame as a well known American leader and peace maker to destroy such historical sover Ethiopia by having a meeting and giving assistance to these miserable rebels to destroy Ethiopian live and properties including churches. We still wonder when you approved the recent Ethiopian election was democratic. Do you really mean it or you think that the Ethiopians or Africans don’t deserve better?? We would like to hear it please. In the mean time as you or America supported this rebels for sure you have a better idea of what they are doing to the people since 1991. We need justice form the world. We never expected such co ordination and assistance to divide this historical country and take the authority of the 75 million people, what a democratic and peaceful world missionary! History is recorded world is noticing it was good if you helped the mass Ethiopians than the Ethnical Tigirians. Do you feel satisfied and happy on your involvement? You can change the past as you brought him (them) up bring them down, because that is the vote of the mass Ethiopians interest.we know if you want you can do it please helpe the Ethiopians not only the Tigitians

Dear Mr. Carter You are a highly respected statesman in interenational affairs. You came to Ethiopia as an observer to oversee on May election. An observer is supposed to be impartial. When you arrived in Addis Ababa you tolked to the news papers about making sure the Ethiopian election was fair. After that you spoke with Prime minister Meles Zenawi you should have spoken with the oppostion parties as well. This is not taking a neutral stance.I see this as siding with the EPRDF before the election took place. Dear sir During the Somalian invasion of Ethiopia it was partly because of your refusal to supply arms to Mengistu's government that he turned to the USSR for suport. The Dergue caused misery for millions of people in Ethiopia. You have a long term relationship with Melese Zenawe.Look now at the problems under Melese zenawe. His is an oppressive regime:people are starving,HIV is rampant, and the government is corrupt, and favours just one ethnic group.Your friendship with Melese only encourages him to cling to power, against the good of the Ethiopian people. Please do not meddle again in Ethiopian politics.

I am very sad that Mr. Carter declared that the election in Ethiopia was free and fair. Mr. Carter you have always been aginst Ethiopia. Mr. Carter had funded Somalia's expansion ambitions in Ethiopia in 1977/78. Becasue of the Somalia-Ethiopia war, thousands of Ethiopian civilians were killed. Once agins Mr. Carter gives support to criminal group called Woyane which is killing innocent Ethiopians. Mr. Carter you are old person by now, I think it is better if you become good person.

Please father Carter what is your hidden agenda with Ethiopian people? Thus far it has remained a riddle for all of us. Please take a minute to think and it is really your high time to fear God and unravel the truth, though it costs you nothing, it really is a matter of life and death for the lives of the 74 million Ethiopian people. We beseech you in the name of whomever you believe and give high credit. Hoping you will be standing with the destutes who are deprived of their democratic rights of being led by those whom they elected. God richly bless you.

President Carter, You are one of the most powerful and influential person dead or alive that walk(ed) in this planet. Please don’t forget though there is a power more than above us all – the almighty God. We are all the same in face of the almighty. Do the right thing – bring a stop to the bloodshed of innocent people, who one day would like to experience what you called “the American Dream” – “Ethiopian Dream” I pray God will you give you all the strength you need to do the right thing.

Your Excellence Mr. Carter do not be biased by the information or petition from thos who always shout "Ethiopia or Death". They are men of words but not of practices. These are individuals who keep on tlking about Ethiopia with no contribution to its development. Particularly, those leaving out of Ethiopia are beneficiaries of the civil unrest in Ethiopia. We as Ethiopians leaving in Ethiopia we appreciate your concerns to Ethiopia and Keep on doing so. May God bless you and your family.

Ethiopian Oppositon are plying with fire and aiming at disintegrating a country which is on the brink of it. They are waging the old fashion of failed EPRP's urban war using youngsters who are at the hight of their emotions. This would benefit no one exept thos who had unfinished agenda for the past 30 years. And these are reminants of the dead EPRP who are still with similar ideology unerased from their brain. They are not beneficial to the public at all. Ethiopians should not only see those who won in Addis, those who won outside are people who are no body interms of personality, educational level, morality. Some are brokers of commercial sex-workers ( Ex: elecorate of Gondrar), Gulit Merchants, and the like. So the opposition by no means will bring solution to Ethiopia, rather will be additional nusiances to the politics. The political issues in Ethiopia are realted to ethinic issues and Eritrean politics, the opposition are not atall concerned with the first question. Therefore, will not bring any solution to resolve the political questions of many Ethiopians.

Look Carter, Have you seen the result of your work, you said that the election were done democratically but right after you said this many innocent Ethiopian were killed by the rulling party and many opposition party members were in prisoned. This is all the result of your support without seeing the fact. Ethiopians will bring you to understand for what your did. Even now you still have time to reward us and clear your mistakes. Hope you will be convinced.

Dude, you seem to have done some great stuff. It appears African politcs is hard for ex-American president. You did great with the Israelis and Egyptionas but when it comes to Meles, you are acting like a fan. I don't know what motivated you to act in such manner but I hope it is ignorance and apathy. Both are bad but they are better than "premeditate d disregard for Ethiopians claim of a freedom and democracy". Carter, don't ever, ever come to my country.

Well you said what you felt right but acknowledging your mistake is very important to keep the relation with our people, I don’t think you come all the way from home to bring bias. It is true you have to be smart to keep good relation with the ruling party for the sake of your country, but not with the expenses of 72 mil people interest. You have to remember God is watching if what you did, if you did it to jeopardize people interest. I know, not only you but the American government and its Intelligence knows what our leaders are doing. It is clear to you what they are practicing is not fare and with no humanity. The recent killing of unarmed individuals disproves your statement and it is a clear evidence of our dictators. I know with the current world politics you can not make yourself out of our country. You have to keep your country’s interest, but you should do it with the fear of God because one day we would all face him. We are poor and need to have peace and harmony not tribalism, do not make any statement that would affect more 72 mil people. Remember God is watching!
