I support this petition. I hate buying DVDs and not being able to watch them simply because the option for captioning isn\'t there. I can understand a thing without it.
There is no reason why closed captioning should not be included. I am not deaf, but sometimes my home is very noisy with other activities. Rather than turn up the TV, I turn on closed captioning. Also if actor(s) have a thick accent. It's great!
I have had the honor of one of my best friends being deaf. Throu the years of being friends with her I have met close to 100 other deaf individuals. The thought of them not being able to enjoy the same entertainment as me is rediculous!
I'm hard of hearing and believe that this will help me, and all who suffer from hearing problems. Please add this feature to all DVD'S/VHS or what ever else is out there.
I'm not deaf, but with 5 people in my house, a multitude of pets, and actors that seem to no longer know how to enunciate, I have closed captions on all the time. They help you catch things you might miss aurally. I'm always disappointed when a DVD I buy doesn't have them.
There is no need to be deaf to support this: Many movies have such an inferior sound track, that nobody catches what is said! Furthermore CC is a great help if the movie is not in your mother tongue.
I am deaf myself. I have been using closed caption to watch TV programs and movies almost all my life since the first closed caption decoders were put on the market 20 years ago. Without this technology, I don't know what I would have missed out on.
Hearing impairment is considered the most prevalent condition in the world. About 10% of the world has a hearing loss. That would amount to about 700 million people on Earth. So if you choose to leave out closed captions, then you would be shrinking your pool of customers, which would be millions in the USA alone. Is that what you want?
It is not that expensive nor that difficult to install closed caption in movies and TV programs. The costs are small compared to the huge profit that is made out of selling movies. Think about it.
I am deaf myself. I have been using closed caption to watch TV programs and movies since the first CC decoders were put on the market. That was back when I was about four years old. Without that technolgy, I wouldn't have understood anything that was going on in the movies and TV programs. Nobody likes to be where it is virtually impossible to make sense out of the situation at hand.

It is not that expensive to install closed captions in movies. You earn way too much money to even begin to worry about a negative net gain in profits. In other words, you would still earn exponentially more than lose money to put in closed captions. We will also thank you for it. Installing closed caption is not a huge and complicated task to carry out; yet it benefits us SO much.
I am deaf and would like to see closed captioning on all DVDs/VHS/and movie theatres. Deaf people are human too like the hearing. My hearing wife loves closed captioning too because she feels happy I can understand what she watches and it's good for her too in case she misses what was said on tv that she can read what she misses. For the companies that don't put closed captioning please reconsider and have a heart and use it because we're human like you too. Am sure you can find millions of deaf people that would really appreciate it along with hearing people.
It is so important for all of us to unite for one another so everyone can equally enjoy television and movies. Luckily, CC has become popular and pretty much every show has it available, and every movie has subtitles, but there are still those few. And those few restrain everyone who is deaf and makes them feel inferior. Help make them feel equal. Understand their pain. Force closed captioning on EVERY movie and EVERY show!
because my mom and dad are deaf and they hardly rent/buy any movies because of no CC/ subtitle
and i would like to watch movies without them interrupting me
i'm am deaf and i am sick and tried of renting movies that don't have CC
i would love to understand what they are saying instead of bugging my daughter to translate it to me
i would love to enjoy a movie like daughter does
Becuase deaf people and deaf-hearing want to enjoy watch the TV or DVD matter.. It should on CC or Subtille. They want to know what on the movie action or more other.. It is must respect to deaf people and deaf-hearing..
I support this petition. My fiance bought one dvd included a free dvd. They were together. Two dvds name "Saw2" and "The Ugly". The Ugly show no captioned and subtitle for hearing impaired. I told him that it is not worth if it didn't have shown a captain or subtitle when it begin. I notice "Lion Gate Home Entertainment" didn't have a captain or subtitle. Or it has a subtitle of Spanish only. This dvd is wasting of my fiance's money because it is not showing CC or subtitle for deaf and hard of hearing. He can't return it to the store after he already opened a dvd. :-( I wish ADA should improve a law for any dvds or video with any companies which they make a movie. I am not appreciate to watch any dvds without CC or subtitle. It is going to be wasting his money. I still don't understand why any dvds didn't have shown CC or subtitle (English).
I'm hearing, but I still like using closed captioning, and my fiancee and some of my friends need it. Subtitles are NOT for deaf people! They are a poor subsititute for that! CC is better because it can be placed by the speaker instead of always in the middle.
I support this petition. Deaf people are human just like the hearing people. By not having cc wouldn't that be considered discrimanation? It is not their fault that they are deaf or hard of hearing.
Support the blind and non-deaf, ears - sound effects. Support the deaf, eyes - captioning effects. If you going to do captioning, do it 100%, don't handicap the system. What makes one DVD better than the other? Do not discriminate the "other" DVD movies by not giving them captioning opportunities. In doing this, you are "selecting" which companies / DVDs gets captioning lux. By all means, don't choose what we Deaf can watch and can't watch. You choose one, choose all. Just like sound effects, all have that effect.
