A centre like this is badly needed - especially in this part of the City. Log on the DSPCA website and you will come across horendous neglect and torture stories.. all from this side of the City.
I am a responsible dog owner, and would love an enclosed area for my retired racer to sprint and train in off lead. So many dogs are allowed to wander or are lost by their owners, such provision would make the roads and housing areas safer for people as well as dogs
Lisa & Tara should be highly commended for all the effort they put into their training classes - we who have attended their classes see the results in our own dogs. I am in total agreement for this Canine centre in West Dublin. Good Luck
Happy owner of two wonderful, priceless rescue dogs. Such a shame that there isn't more responsibility taken by dog owners and local government to reduce the amount of unwanted animals by providing support, education and free spaying for dogs AND cats.
I really hope that the training centre is provided by Fingal Council soon - I'm sure it will be such a useful facility that many people and dogs from all over Dublin will use and benefit from greatly. The very best of luck to all involved!
We got our dog "Cher" - a Rescue Dog through Dog Training Ireland - 6 years old and a little dote - THANK YOU! With more space more dogs could be saved, re-homed and make more people happy. . .
Pro-active involvement by Local Authorities in encouraging owners to undertake dog-training should drastically reduce the need for provision of pounds and associated costs.
We take many of the pound dogs refered to above and I can confirm that almost all will have minor training issues that we resolve with ease before re-homing. It would be so much better if the owners had help to sort out the problems with their pet before they end up in the pound. Good luck with this project.
Poplar Farm Kennels.
I am a qualified Dog Trainer based in the Cork area and work all over Munster. I back this and wish there was an equivalent petition in the Cork area as I would back that too. Best of Luck.
The obedience and puppy classes of Dog training Ireland helped both my wife and I to realise what was involved in owning a dog. These classes helped us learn to keep our pet under control and well behaved. We hope that Fingal County Council will assist them in continuing their efforts to ensure that responsible dog ownership is the norm and not the exception.
This is a badly needed resource for the entire Dublin region. There are so few options for training and many people want to go to an environment that is guaranteed NOT to use harsh training methods. Right now it is potluck what you might get. Many of us would love to see a professionally run facility of this sort -- and good training resources are known from research in the US to cut way down on the number of dogs in a region that are handed in to the pound to be destroyed.
I support Dog Training Ireland in this petition. As an individual studying canine behaviour and training, I realise the real need for this type of facility in Ireland.
