The House doesn't reconvene until January 31 2006. The Senate, only slightly better, on January 18.

The President of the United States insists that he is Commander in Chief in wartime, justifying urgent and unprecedented monitoring and surveillance. Members of Congress have told us that holding investigative hearings into these actions are crucial to the checks and balances. The Senate will begin its session with confirmation hearings on Supreme Court nominee Alito.

Signers of this petition urge their public servants to get back to work on January 4, 2006, or voluntarily forfeit $2,000 of salary for each working day that they are not in session.
