Anyone who knows how to add knows that there is no way getting around the fact that the bible indirectly states that the age of the earth to be around 6000 years old (based on the geneology in the gospel of matthew), so here is what I have to say: (STATEMEN/T PROOF) 1) Light travels at a constant speed of 299,792,458 meters/second or 186282.4 miles/sec 1) [Assuming that you also believe that the earth is really 93 million miles from the sun at average, earth’s orbit is elliptical] 93,000,000/ 186282.4= 499.2420111seconds/60seco nds≈ 8.31 minutes, which is the accepted figure for the amount of time it takes for the light from the sun to reach earth 2) 1lightyear= 5.878499911x 10^12 miles 2) 186282.4miles x 60[seconds in a minute]=1176944miles/min; 1176944miles x 60 [minutes/hour]= 670616640miles/hour; 670616640miles x 24 [hours/day]= 1.609479936 x 10^10 miles/day; 1.609479936 x 10^10 miles x 365.242199 [exact days/ year]= 5.878499911x 10^12 miles/ year 3) Deneb is a star visible to the naked eye, using parallax shift [assuming you believe in geometry also] its calculated that the closest distance that star could be is 2,100 light years 3) 5.878499911x10^12 miles/ 2,100 light years= 2,799,285,672 years for that light from Deneb to travel to earth 4) The universe would have to be at least that amount of years old 4) If the universe is only 6000 years old, then we would not be able to see as many of the starts that we are able to with the naked eye; we may only be able to see a few by now, like the ones that are closest to us. If the universe was only 6000 years old the light from most of the stars would still be traveling to earth. That would b really cool. my eighth grade science teacher taught on creation and evolution from a scientific standpoint, he was really awesome and taught us some pretty interesting things. (he was a christian) Good luck!!!
