This HR Department owes you a written apology and the employee who stated such a thing should be fired! It's a shame that people actually think that racism in America is gone until it hits home; America was built on racism. I am signing this petition because racism is wrong in all forms...but at the same time I wonder why it is that you are not pursuing an EEOC complaint against Amica? It doesn't cost anything and by the looks of your story, Amica is violating your civil rights and contributing to a hostile work environment by not investigating the issue (even if they choose to do nothing....) Maybe if the EEOC was called in, that may light fire under their asses and at least open up a case to investigate. I hope you documented everything and recorded some conversations....In the meantime, find a new job and make sure that your child is well aware of his blackness (and is proud of it) so that he is well-equipped to deal with this type of thing...it will only get worse as he gets older. Believe me, as a black woman just out of school, I know 1st hand.
it's amazing that till this day and age will still live in a world that's racist. i'm glad that you kept your cool initially. you should instill your son to be proud of both of his heritages. the best way to get back at this company and people like them is knowledge and success. if your son is successful(which i'm sure he will be) never goes to jail,sell drugs etc. trust me they will hate it. that's the sweetest revenge.

I understand this issue because I am bi-racial myself and of African American/Latino descent.I have dealt with this problem all my life and I am nineteen years old now and have discovered that you have to stay strong and prove these people wrong. Please tell your son to stay strong and try to ignore all the negative stuff that comes out of people's mouths.

As a father of a bi-racial child, I feel your pain. I am not an advicate of violence, but that co-worker would've gotten their butts kicked right there on the spot. I'll put anyone in check that has a problem with the fact that my child is bi-racial.

I find it very depressing that grown people (as well as companies) can generate such "baseless" hate towards another due to there connection with other races. I also find it equally as sad that others accept this as a general way of life. I support your cause and hope that your drive can at the very least spark a change in societies views. But I would have expected at least from a superpower such as the US, the birth place of the majority of figureheads, such as Martin Luther King, to encourage the acceptance of all.

HI. My name is Racine Pate. Your story really touched me because I have and am still going through a similar situation as you. I grew up in a small town and a white girl and a black boy is the last thing anyone wanted to see. SInce I was a minor and had to do what my parents say I ended up moving schools from where I had been since Pre-K, cant have any contact with any friends, and graduated a year early. Despite all the bad that has happened to me because of it I know it is not my fault that I am an opened minded person and dont judge anyone by the color of their skin. Have you tried the company's ombudsman? It seems that since this company desires to brush this under the rug. If this ever happens again at any company... document, document, document and once a pattern is established then move forward. You must have witnesses or email correspondence, it sucks but sometims thats what it takes to fight a company that does not want a lawsuit or promotes systematic rascism. Stay strong.
People never cease to amaze me. I too have a bi-racial child who attended a small school where she was called names on a regular basis. She is in college now majoring in journalism. Your son WILL HAVE THE LAST LAUGH! I will pray for you and your family, for God loves ALL HIS PEOPLE.
