Dear Friends,

Whereas the Dabre Sultan Monastery in Jerusalem is the last foothold of Ethiopia and the whole continent of Africa anywhere near the Church of the Holy Sepulcher,

Whereas, it is well to be recalled that for centuries our church fathers crossed deserts and seas only to reach Holy Jerusalem and defend this monastery from any usurpers,

Whereas the recent violations of the Status Quo by the Copts at the monastery jeopardize our sovereignty and compromise our rights at the monastery,

Whereas these violations and intrusions are preconceived acts of provocation intended to lead the weak Ethiopian monks and nuns yet into another bloody incident, to which the Ethiopians will be held responsible as in the past,

Whereas the Israeli authorities are the only legal authority liable to take any action against these violations as it is obliged to do so by law, international conventions and the Status Quo agreement itself,

And whereas a firm action or condemnation whatsoever failed to follow by any of the relevant and proper authorities,

We call upon the Israeli authorities to act in accordance to their mandate as did the British and Jordanians before and see to it that the Status Quo is observed in the monastery and by doing so prevent any bloody incident that can ensue from these provocations,

We call upon the newly elected Premier of Israel H.E. Mr. Ehud Omert, a friend of Ethiopians, to address and solve the issue of this monastery that has become a source of great distress and grievance for all Ethiopians, as soon as he takes office,

We call upon all the Ethiopian authorities to take a firm stand on this issue and petition to the Government of Israel to carry out its obligation towards these violations and the humanitarian needs of the monks and nuns at the monastery,
