that really is quite bad if you think of the amount of medical and science research they can do for £1500 an hour. the money they are using on solicitor's fees is quite atrocious. it could be put to a much better use. if you think that diabetes uk could use £1500 to find a cure for diabetes, if the cure was found then (i mean this in a positive way) there would be no need for diabetes uk to exist anymore, they wouldn't be so hellbent on getting this money back from this family - the illness is cured. but by doing this it's preventing a cure from being found and it's causing grief for a diabetic family. i don't get it.
10 years is too many years! If they've left it that long to make a diabetic family homeless that is just evil. IMO they should shut down. The Queen shouldn't be patron anymore.
Diabetes UK yesterday admitted that Dr Douglas Scummwood was involved in a freak accident recently. The details of this incident are that whilst Dr Scumwood was trotting down to Barclays Bank to bank all of your money he was not looking where he was going and accidently tripped over a homeless man sitting on the side of the pavement. This led to him stumbling over this poor homeless man and Mr Scumwood got his big head jammed in the doorframe of the entrance of Barclays Bank. Dr Scumwood was unfortunately stuck in this awkward and embarrassing position for several hours as the local fire brigade service had read what a shambles of a charity he runs and decided not to turn up to rescue him. Diabetes UK have officially stated that due to this incident Dr Scumwood does behave quite oddly and lunatically, but should not, I repeat, should not, be treated as dangerous. We have been advised that should Dr Scumwood approach you, the best thing to do is point and laugh.

Diabetes UK could ahve done something ten years ago and the family would be financially stable again now. It seems completely unfair though to leave this for a decade, allow so much interest to accumulate on this debt, and then attempt to enforce it. If Diabetes UK seriously wanted this money then they would of (and should of) done something immediately after the court case. They have had every opportunity to do so. I think that it is unfair for a charity to stop anyone from helping diabetics, or any disease or illness for that matter. I think that it is unfair for Diabetes UK to use the publics' money in that way. If a person has given money or left money in a will to Diabetes UK then they would have done so on the premise that their money will be used to help diabetics, of which it is not. I do not think the Queen should remain Patron either.

I don't think the Queen should be Diabetes UK's Patron. I don't think the Queen became Patron of Diabetes UK knowing that they would do this. I don't think she would want to stay Patron anyway knowing that Diabetes UK are doing this.
I support this petition because if Diabetes UK sell and buy this family's home to get money, they're only going to use that money to make ANOTHER diabetic family homeless. I'm glad I'm not a diabetic after reading this. If I found out that a charity I had given money to to help cure a disease I was suffering from was actually using my money to make someone like me homeless... Well... I don't think I can print what I would do... I agree - New Chief Executive of Diabetes UK.
get over it Smallwood - even if you are legally entitled to these costs - by doing this, you've just proved to EVERYBODY HOW MUCH YOU DO NOT DESERVE THEM!
because it's not right for one person to make a choice like this. this is a family's home that is at stake and the choice of taking their home from them has been made by one person at a charity with thousands of employees who spend their time trying to HeLp diabetics.
I don't think that it is fair to ctiticise the entirity of Diabetes UK over this as I am sure that there must be some people who they have been helpful to (just none on here by the sounds of it Lol). But, IF it is (and I'm not saying that it is), Douglas Smallwood behind this litigation, then it may be in the interests of Diabetes UK if he was replaced (I say that on the grounds of what I'm reading on here!). The Chief Executive of any charity does not have the right to form decisions like this without the consent of the trustees. I checked the Companies House website earlier today and found (I think it was) around 25 dormant companies with the Diabetes UK address. I didn't believe this when I read about this on here. I found it quite shocking that a charity can be allowed to do something like that.

It is him who is stopping anyone in the United Kingdom to set up their own diabetic charity. It is him who approves Diabetes UK to have almost 80% administration costs - this means that less than 30 pence of every pound you donate to Diabetes UK goes towards helping diabetics.

because if they're not going to use charity money to help people with diabetes then they should give it back to the people who donated it to them. That way the public can give it to another diabetic charity who will do more good with their money.

No charity should make people homeless let alone a charity for diabetics making diabetics homeless. I don't really think whether Diabetes UK are legally owed this money or not comes into it. It comes down to morals. You cannot blame this family for wanting to help diabetics. The family obviously chose to fight for the right to help people who are suffering from an illness which they have themselves. I think that it is a horrible thing for a diabetic charity to do to a diabetic family. I agree that there is no point to this and it is a terrible waste of charity money.
why exactly do centrepoint allow Douglas Smallwood to be a Board Member for them is he goes around making people homeless? I would of thought Board Members of homeless charities should be working to get people OFF the streets not making more people homeless.
Sue Diabetics UK for millions then split what you get between homeless charities and diabetic charities. Give it to the homeless charities who don't act MALICIOUSLY to the homeless or DIABETICS! And give it to diabetic charities who don't act MALICIOUSLY to DIABETICS or the homeless!
