Isaiah Washington supposedly (I use the word supposedly because I was not there to witness it) said an inappropriate anti-gay slur to his co-star in the hit television show Grey’s Anatomy. And while that is not very nice or polite, we have all been called negative slurs in our lives. Did we start petitions online to get those that called us those hurtful names fired? No, we are adults, and we accept people can be cruel and ignorant, but we are big enough people to overcome that and move on with our lives. People make regrettable mistakes all the time. I realize people in the public eye need to be a better example, but other "celebrities" have done much, much worse. They are more or less unscathed, but someone has created a now popular online petition to have this talented man fired from a role he plays perfectly, and many of us enjoy him as Dr. Burke on Grey's Anatomy. Should he be fired for this? I don't think so. He has apologized, which many do not find sufficient. If you, like me, feel this man's career should not in jeopardy because he made a mistake, please sign this petition. People have called me many a name, unprovoked for my religious and political beliefs, which upset me, but I am big enough to turn the other cheek. We as Americans are supposed to have free speech, freedom of religion and political ideology. Why can’t we be more forgiving of people these days? If we believe in a Higher Power, then we know that is what He wants us to do. In the name of fairness, please think about this and sign if you believe this to be true. By signing this, we are asking ABC and the public to forgive Mr. Washington’s for his poor choice of words.
