The actions of the Enrollment advisors at this university are causing unnecessary queue in Student Technical support. Students with technical issues affecting their class involvement are made to wait because the technicians are on calls setting up new students for class. These students state that their EC's instructed them to call STS for their Outlook Express setups while already enrolled students are waiting for help. EC's should be aware of their work responsibilities and should attend training classes clearly stating that OE setups are their responsibility. The STS staff would greatly benefit from this and the technicians would be able troubleshoot technical calls more quickly.

I agree that something needs to be done, whether it means (A)Enforcing Enrollment's current job description or (B) Making initial setup a part of STS responsibilities. I would take no issue with the second option, as long as it came with a new call time... adjusted appropriately for the additional time it takes to tech calls from brand new students. Either way would be fine with me, but the simpler option would be to make EAs do the job that they were hired to do in the first place. Considering the generous amount they are paid to do their job, EAs really shouldn't have any problem with this.

I strongly feel that the EA's do require some higher form of accountability. It is not fair to our student's that have legitimate technical issues to be on hold for so long on start days. Not all EA's are guilty of dumping calls and bailing on student's but it's those few bad apples that make both STS look bad and give student's a bad impression of UOP Online. When an appointment with a student is made, it should be kept. A student should never have to call STS on the verge of tears or a nervous breakdown because they are just so overwhelmed and have no idea what is going on. I have had too many student's that have been basically thrown to the sharks. That is just unacceptable for an institution as prestigous as our own.

I do not know if this petition would be the best way to go about addressing the long-standing issue that we in STS have been experiencing in regards to the growing issue with EC/EA's, but it would be a good sounding board none the less. I am in agreement that something needs to be done with the EA/EC's telling students to contact STS for assistance in setting up their newgroups and email. There have been more times then I can count where I have had a counselor call us in STS and I see the call come in either conferenced already, which I do not agree with because it puts pressure on us to take the call from the counselor... and we don't want to say anything with the student on the phone to show any appearance of friction between us and the counselors so we take them.... or after the first ring where it shows up as a counselor, it goes to conferencing in. And when they are on the phone, what do they usually say? So many times they say, "Hey I have a student that is encountering a problem, can you help them?" When I ask what the problem is the counselor always says, "Oh I don't remember." Or sometimes they will usually go, "Let me conference them in." They immediately conference them in then. They should be better prepared with the proper information to assist us. Usually at that point they will say, "Oh I have another call, call me back and then they drop off the line, leaving me to do their job. I do not agree with that, but what are we supposed to say? We can't say anything to the counselor because 90% of the time, they have the student on the line with them and that would just be poor customer service to say something to the counselor in regards to doing their job. I personally have no problem in assisting an EA/EC if they have a question, but I do not agree with them not wanting to take any advice I have to give and wanting me to tell the student.

The EA's should be held accountable for their duties. Every student a tech walks to class, that student's EA should be docked pay, and that money given to the tech who walked that student to class. Additionally, the hardware software agreement should be a tool of the EA or QC when enrolling students!

Students do not have to register on the UOP or WIU website because they already have a user login/password from applyweb, for the last dang time!

The STS staff needs to help student with technical issues so they can feel comfortable attending school online. When new students call for OE setups, not only do the attending students have to wait longer but, the new students are confused and feel a bit overlooked. We can all work to help the staff as well as the students succeed.

For the Extra 5 bucks an hour they can do they're own job.

I agree, alternatively, a more reliable method for holding EAs responsible for failing to perform their job duties would be highly appreciated so we could at least filter out the EAs who refuse to do their job.
