In recent months, you have watched what the Ethiopian government did against EFJA and its executive members. The Ethiopian authorities have tried to replace the only independent Association that represents our journalist brothers and us. The Ethiopian government is trying to silence EFJA. Now it will be our responsibility to stand beside our brothers and fight for the freedom of our association.

We, the undersigned friends of free press, former members and founders of EFJA, condemn the acts of the Ethiopian government against the independent Ethiopian free press journalists Association.

Freedom of expression is one of the fundamental human rights. The only case it should be restricted is when it violates individual or socital rights but not to elongate dictatorial administration. So I strongly oppose the act of the government.

It is a better idea to leave the EFJA free instead of giving hard time for those independent journalists and their free association in there homeland.

Drafted press law is neither free nor its meets international standards. It is designed to give free hands to EPRDF to conrol freesom of expression in Ethiopia. If EPRDF is sincere enough, it has to scrap it all together and invite a panel including Ato Kiffle and EFJA, to prepare a new draft that meets international standards.

Free press, free sprit and free conscious! Let us not violate the rule of law and become tyrant against the will of the people, basics of human right. Let us not nullify the sacrifices of thousands who martyred for the sake of democracy and the rule of Law. At least let us abide to the constitution we have declared to the world.

Whether we like it or not, free press and free market is the only affordable short cut that the current governmnet can show to the people. So "Free the press and you shall free yourself "is all I got to say.

Where there is no vision people will perish. That's what our self appointed leaders are lacking.Take some vitamins to improve your IQ so that yo can be visionery's to lead this historic country the way the civilized world is led. Hand's off from EFJA and every Ethiopian citizen to infringe its inalienable rights!
