As parents we like to believe that we are informed on whats going on with our children at all times. Recently that was shown not to be the case. Schools in our district are doing their best to enusre our childrens safety, unforchantley there is nothing in place to inform us of any incident that may arise. Recent incidentes have left us uninformed and left us with unkowns. Teacher and principles can only do so much, their main goal is to teach and protect our children. Although they are doing a great job, the school district isn't giving them the appropiate tools to better inform us.
School's in surrounding districts do have the tools in place, we are larger and with more students in our school's. That means more parents to inform, and yet no parent is. We as parents, friends and neighbor's need to demand that something be in place, for our childrens safety and our piece of mind.
I have talked to several parents who live in surrounding towns that are in school's with emergency response systems in place. They receive messages of emergencies, school delays, absent notices and it,s in the principles vioce. This has been found to be very informative for them. If anything happenes they are notified right away, they dont have to worry that they don't know what is happening with their children at all times.
Our school district has promised to look into such a system for our children's school. To ensure that this gets real attention i formed this petition to show the school district that we want to know whats going on at all times. We need to step up and demand this for our school's, for our piece of mind.
Theres is nothing like pulling up to you small childs school and seeing SWAT team, Police and barracades. Alot of us didn't know the situation, and had no idea when they would lift the lock down's. School phones where jammed and the school's had no tools to notify us. Parent's where worried when their children didn't return home from school, some situations provented parent's from getting near the school. Some children from other school where repeating rumors and parent's where in panic because they where ill informed.
The system they use in Derry, NH is something called AlertNOw. This system is used all over the country and is really reliable. It requires no new technology and exra phone lines.
