Initially, I was interested in upgrading my phone to something like the Palm Pre until I found out about the plan requirements. Now, that the Palm Pre is available to order online, I logged in to start the process of upgrading my phone. I had no intentions of completing the transaction, I was just trying to see if Sprint restricted me to the required plans and it did.
Sprint please understand, not everyone needs this plan. I understand that this is supposedly based on PDA phones using a lot of data but instead of alienating your existing customers consider requiring at a minimum a Data Pack add-on, not an Everything Data plan. Read further to see why your customers are jumping ship. I remember over a year ago, when Sprint said that the Instinct would be the only device that would require a plan change. Like many things told to me by a Sprint Rep this was far from true. The Data reason that Sprint gives for plan requirements does not make sense. Many of us have Unlimited Data, so SPRINT, what is the REAL reason we have to switch plans in order to activate certain devices?
Typical Situation
Long Term Sprint customer who is excited about phones such as; the HTC HERO, and Samsung Moment. This customer has a 2-line shared family plan with 1500 minutes and unlimited data. Currently both lines have the HTC Pro. This customer’s spouse would like to upgrade to the Samsung Moment however to do so they would have to change to an Everything plan. This couple currently pays less than 120.00/mo for 2 lines and because of this change would be looking at a 40.00 increase per month. Instead of paying a “cell phone note” plus the cost of the phone, they decide to stay with what they have or explore rival carriers for a cheaper package with a new Android phone. Again, lost revenue for SPRINT. It would cost this couple several hundred dollars over the course of a 2 year contract in additional expenses over a 2 year period. This customer feels that Sprint is going to force them to change to a plan that offers fewer daytime minutes, fewer features but essentially will allow them to get a newer phone, this ultimately leaves a bad taste in your mouth. We feel that Sprint should have initiated certain protocols to enable customers like to be able to activate new devices.. 3 things could happen due to this new “requirement”, (1) the one member purchases the phone and changes the plan, (2) They decide not to purchase the phone and stick with what they have. Which is loss revenue for Sprint. Or (3) they start looking for another provider who can offer a new phone without forcing one into a plan that one doesn’t really need. In this situation Sprint loses 4 lines plus possible revenue from the purchase of a new phone. Sprint this amounts to a 66% probability that you will lose money.

Here are some things being said about Sprints new strong arm approach….
*****Sprint\\\'s inaction to initiate protocols in the system to enable us to activate these new devices, the are Indirectly, if not Directly, penalizing us.
*****It will come a time where the devices we have now will be obsolete, and in time, one of 2 things will happen >
1) we will switch to one of these mandatory plans or
2) we will leave
*****When Sprint made it mandatory to Activate the Instinct on one of the Everything Plans, which were new at the time, I said that this is a Harbinger of things to come regarding all new devices to require these newer plans. Sprint denied this at the time and said only the Instinct would require a special plan. Yeah, ok Sprint................Can you hear me now?
*****After over 10 years of service, I will consider leaving, if only for the fact that I don\\\'t like Ultimatums ?. Switch plans or you can\\\'t have a new device.............. I probably wouldn\\\'t even get the Hero, but I want to have the Choice.
*****Sprint may not care if some of us leave as they figure they are not getting their minimum of $48? line or whatever they need to charge per line to make a profit. They fail to consider to think outside the box because many of us don\\\'t use our current plans to their maximum allowable usage, which increases Sprint\\\'s profit margin per line.
*****Anyway, Sprint\\\'s restrictive attitude towards its long term customers will only hurt them and not help them.
*****Someone wrote that Sprint now wants to sell us the SAME THING at a HIGHER PRICE. The Hero and Pre don\\\'t use any more data than the WinMo Devices and it\\\'s insulting for them to insinuate that they do.
Sprint, in order to repair your REPUTATION, start thinking like a customer. We want Quality customer service, Quality Cellular service at a Quality Price. The reason why companies like Mc Donald’s is so successful?? It is because they offer a range of products that can be tailored to fit any person’s need. They don’t only offer combo pricing on their items, they give you the choice of a la carte as well. You can mix and match. You see when you do that you don’t lose half of your potential revenue.

If you agree that SPRINT should stop forcing COMBO pricing down our throats sign this petition!!

I support this petition. I have a 2000 free and clear with 2 lines that have 2 centros. The centro is ok I just need a phone with a bigger screen. The only phones compatabile with older plans even newer phones such like the reclaim (total garbage) and is made with one foot in the grave ready for what it is made for being recycled into and android.
