In the UK most types of guns are illegal. These include all handguns and semi-automatic rifles. The only types of weapon that can be held in UK is either a shotgun or a single-shot rifle under a license and with very strict procedures.

The reason the government gives for these restrictions is because they beleive that it reduces gun crime.

However, figures have shown that gun crime has remained relatively unchanged since the ban on all handguns. Also, criminals who are planning to use a gun in a criminal activity can still obtain one very easily(illegaly). So banning guns just makes the everyday citizen less capable to defend him/herself or their family.

I believe that good-standing law abiding citizens should have the rights to own firearms both for their own protection and for recreational activites.

Personally, i beleive that the government also forbids guns from the public to prevent them from going against the governement if it is ever required in the future (possibely). It is in reality another form of control over our everyday lives.

So, please support this petition by signing it and bringing the UK Government to amend the firearms laws.
