Seriously, our school, the Penang Free School has enforced new rules :
[1] Cloth badges (and cloth nametags)
[2] Extremely short hairstyle

Both are totally unneccessary. What would our old frees think? What would our former frees who have gone to the better world and watching over our school from there think?
The cloth badges were indeed used in old times, but our former glory make us uphold the pin badge! The pin badges give us some sort of dignity and acknowlegde us as a premier school. Why degrade it over small reasons, like people giving excuses over lost badges? Lost badges help improve the school income anyway (koperasi sekolah).

The extremely short hairstyle. This is totally absurd. Why the need for that? Our school students do have trends and fashions, and hair over the limit of the rule book is common. The best way to overcome this is to have spot checks from time to time, like the school usually does. Forcing the students to keep extremely short hair shows that the disciplinary board is getting lazy, and using short cut which will taint the students' personal image.

Seriously, this has to end!
This petition is meant for peace, and if it isn't obliged, pretty sure the Penang Free School administrarion will be facing direct attacks from many side, including parents and old frees.

These rules bring no difference at all! There are better rules that could have been made to improve our image. PFS is dying away. Dont kill it even more. F.A.F

I support this petition. I have to say that some of the school administrators have gone from bad to worse in maintaining the school tradition which didn't at all pose any threat to the smooth running of the school in the very first place. Secondly, many Frees lack the spirit of a real Free which almost all, if not all Old Frees had during their heydays as Frees, and I'm sure some of them still carry on with the same spirit but just feel "not right" to show it anymore considering the mess that's increasingly going on in the school system. It's embarassing, certainly. We often talk about the lack of proper enforcement of rules, law, etc. in our public sectors but here we are having unsound policies, system and rules in a once premier school like PFS. What the public generally know about the downsides of PFS is just the surface of the many problems within the school. School staff and students who have walked through the halls of PFS in the past 10 years would be able to delineate the situation better. I'm sure the present Frees (staff and students) also feel the impact (a by-product of the declining standard of education in Malaysia) and they can tell successive stories about how rotten PFS is now. Of course many quarters are to be blamed for PFS' current state, but our Malaysian education ministry actually bears the brunt of it. Malaysia has to wake up!!! Look at what we've done to schools like PFS. PFS (present and old Frees) have to stand on their own feet too and never allow ourselves to self-decay. This is a wake-up call to those concerned about "reviving" schools like PFS. I feel pathetic about the appalling state of PFS now. I look forward to the first step toward recovery for PFS, please.
