Ms. Thuong Nguyen Foshee should be release! This is a clear violation of human rights for she did not do anything wrong. Her only fault was speaking her mind about democracy as a great nation and how she would like Viet Nam to reflect that. Permanent Normalized Trade Relations should not be establish between U.S. and Vietnam, if Vietnam government can't do the right thing and released Ms. Thuog Nguyen "Cuc" Foshee.
It is absolutely Absurd that a US Citizen has been imprisoned for over a year without any formal charges. The US government must get involved to expedite her release!
Why do we trade with this country when they throw innocent people thrown in jail??? Because they're cheap??? No one can visit this poor woman, and she has NO legal representation. As a U.S. citizen, that makes me very infuriated. The U.S. government needs to do something about getting THUONG NGUYEN “CUC” FOSHEE out of Vietnam, especially since she is there with the COMMUNIST government.
because no one should be held against their will without legal representation! ESPECIALLY if she is a U.S. citizen. She certainly shouldn't be going to trial over there when all she has done is visit her home country, and has done NOTHING wrong. How can you trust the Vietnamese Communist government enough to travel when they are just throwing people in jail without a reason! Our U.S. government should be doing something to get her out of Vietnam! *I am a registered and active voter.
Mrs. Foshee has been held for over a year without proper legal representation. Her continued incarceration is incompatible with any normalization or improvement of trade status with the government of Vietnam. Congress should use its powers to secure the release of this American from her interminable imprisonment.
It is in the long term interests of both Vietnam and the US for the former to join the WTO and to get PNTR status. But it is also important to make clear to the Government of Vietnam our expecations regarding human and legal rights. PNTR status and WTO membership should be withheld until Cuc is released.
This past year's tragic and unconscionable incarceration of CUC Foshee, and the present continued incarceration of her can hold no conceivable benefit to the Government of Vietnam. Demonstrate to the United States why we should view you as a humane and worthy Nation ready for broader cultural and economic ties by releasing her immediately.
THUONG NGUYEN “CUC” FOSHEE is a person of compassion and peace who should be returned to her family.
During the early 1980's I was the Director of Refugee Concerns for the Florida Council of Churches, representative to the federal and state governments for Church World Service, and Chairman of the State Committee on Volunteer Agencies for Refugee Issues. I knew and known of Cuc Foshee as a person of compassion.
It is my hope the government of Vietnam will show their compassion and strength in returning Cuc soon to her adopted home.
Sincerely;
Pastor Fred Suedmeyer
John Kerry, the (DIA - Defense Intelligence Agency )committee chairman, told one of the investigators that if the report ever leaked out, "you'll wish you'd never been born." Senator Kerry wants to normalize relations with Vietnam. When the briefing was over, Frances Zwenig, the committee's staff director, ordered that all copies of the investigators' report be destroyed. She also said she wanted their computer files purged. Zwenig, who is now the executive assistant to United Nations Ambassador Madeleine Albright, also wants to normalize relations with Vietnam.
