We, as concerned citizens and members of the community and State, hereby petition that the State of Hawaii Department of Education, the Hawaii High School Athletic Association Executive Board, the Governor of our State and the Boards of Education, change the girls high school sports seasons (e.g basketball & softball) to traditional and advantageous seasons. In 2001, the Board of Education formally recognized gender equity in education. Quote: " The Board of Education fully recognizes that gender equity to all areas of activity extends the doctrine of fairness....a sense of moral responsibility in addition to duty to comply with the legal requirements on non-discrimination."
It has been 12 years waiting, 35 years since the passing of Patsy Mink's Federal Law for gender equity. By affixing our signature(s) we petition that you enforce the law, comply and change the high school girls sports season to the advantageous and traditional seasons starting Fall of 2007.
