For those who have already read books by Diana Gabaldon are very familiar with her 18th-Century Scottish Highlander hero, "Jamie Fraser", and his 20th-Century wife, Claire, whom we meet in her first book “Outlandler”, and where Claire, wife of Frank Randall, is suddenly thrust from 1945 England to 1743 war-torn Scotland … and meets … the very dashing Highlander “Jamie Fraser”.

Diana Gabaldon has already penned 5 books under the series of “Outlander”, and her sixth book is due out in September 2005, where her hero and heroine live, and fight through, various adventures, and at which every turn, Claire must decide whether to return to her 20th-Century English husband or remain with her 18th-Century Scottish family, thus torn between fidelity and desire, and between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable worlds.

Due to the huge worldwide popularity of Gabaldon’s time-travelling “Outlander” book series, Hollywood has been courting Gabaldon for many years now in an effort to bring her “Outlander” book series onto the big screens. However, Gabaldon has been holding out reportedly due to her wanting to “handpick” her hero, “Jamie Fraser”. Gabaldon has apparently already voiced her two (2) choices as actors: Scottish-born GERARD BUTLER (“The Phantom of the Opera”, “Attila”, “Timeline” and “Tomb Raider II”) and Welsh-born IOAN GRUFFUDD (“Fantastic Four”, “King Arthur”, “102 Dalmatians” and the British series “Hornblower”).

Although both BUTLER and GRUFFUDD are indeed *EXCELLENT* candidates as the onscreen swashbuckling “Jamie Fraser”, we, the undersigned, firmly believe that it is none other than *GERARD BUTLER* who should be awarded this role of a lifetime, and who could seemingly and effortlessly catapult Gabaldon’s onscreen “Outlander” series into a major popular and profitable Hollywood franchise.

Besides his *superlative* acting skills, GERARD BUTLER has all the essential characteristics sure to make “Jamie Fraser” his alter ego, and the next Hollywood hero who will make women salivate in anticipation of the next “Outlander” movie installment: charisma, build, commanding presence, excellent horsemanship, ability to display a manly physical strength and an inner softer side, at times within inches of each other, without ever appearing sappy or superficial, looks *smashing* in a kilt (see pic), and, of course, sex appeal as well as an authentic Scottish accent!

By apposing our collective signatures hereunder, we, the undersigned, ask that this Petition serve to demonstrate to both Diana Gabaldon and to the "Powers That Be" of Hollywood envisaging to purchase the rights to Gabaldon’s “Outlander” series the huge following and bankability enjoyed by GERARD BUTLER in a bid to award him with the coveted role of “Jamie Fraser”.
